Marg is a stylistic foil to Cotto. He takes a better punch, so he wins the war of wills as far as who will be comin forward all night. Cotto's capable of boxing goin backward, but it ain't his favored style, and even if you're in good shape, doin sumthin you ain't used to doin (ie backin up and movin after every flurry) makes you tire quicker. Marg's got a body attack to match Cotto's, which is sumthin he's never dealt with before. And there's danger of his uppercuts in close, which is where Cotto likes to operate, and cuz he's shorter, it's a punch he can't help but eat in close. Still a good chance Marg may have cheated against him, but based on the style matchup, I don't think he woulda needed to anyway. Sr is a decent trainer, but he ain't the miracle worker cats make him out to be. I doubt he coulda done enuf for Cotto's defensive game to save him in that fight.

Is the kid perfect? No. Every fighter has their flaw and will get hit no matter what. But yet again ill say it; what solid defense can you possibly have against someone with a granite-chin and loaded gloves who throws a 100 punches a round?

I think Daniel Santos and Paul Williams can answer that for you. As for Mosley, he kept Marg under 30 punches per rounnd regardless of him using plaster or not.

            It depends on the trainer.

Floyd Sr. built Floyd Jr.'s foundation. The Foundation is the most important part of a person/fighter. And who helped Roger?
Chad Dawson also looked better under Sr.

Tyson looked better with the Catskill team than without.

Technique, game-plan, psychological help...just overall helping with preparing for the fight both mentally and physically. Trainers can have some affect. But in the end, it is up to the person/fighter to accept and prepare himself from within.

Evangelista is not the best trainer out there, given the fact that he didn't even bother to check on Margarito's handwrapping. Cotto's defense is very poor and he should switch to a better trainer while he's still young.

Cotto's defense isn't that poor, if it was Shane would have knocked Cotto out.

Lets be honest here, Evangelista is a mediocre trainer at best, all that Miguel has done, he has done it based on his talent. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mayweather Sr. getting involved in some way with Cotto if Cotto-Mayweather is ever made, just to screw up his son. After all, he claims that he can teach Hatton how to beat Jr. and Ricky isn't a particularly technical fighter, Cotto could use those "secrets" better.

its not poor, but it is not good for a guy that throws uppercuts like margo does

Sr has hypothetically trained every fighter who has lost/has defensive deficiencies, and turned them into unbeatable, untouchable defensive geniuses, while never sacrificing any amount of their attacking arsenal.

Floyd Sr is the greatest hypothetical trainer of all time.

I mean, we've see little evidence in that realm we call the real world, but hey, in the fictionary world, Sr replaces Lowe as Pavlik's trainer, and has Kelly slipping punches and doing the shoulder roll.
