If Floyd Sr were to train Miguel Cotto

for the Margarito fight and sharpened his defense, Cotto would have won that fight easily even if Margarito used plaster or not IMO. His vulnerability to those uppercuts was very frustrating to see. It would be interesting to see how Mayweather Sr can change Cotto if he ever trains him, I think Cotto would be unstoppable. Evangelista is not the best trainer out there, given the fact that he didn't even bother to check on Margarito's handwrapping. Cotto's defense is very poor and he should switch to a better trainer while he's still young.

Note: This is not a Cotto hate thread.

i agree, when he learns to tighten up his guard, stevie wonder could be his trainer. but cotto is a offense/puncher type of fighter, and that style leaves you open too much.

I agree. I think Cotto should get a new trainer. He's plateaued with Evangelista.

Yeah, It's good that Cotto does everything correctly in his offensive game.

If Margarito did indeed have plaster that night, Cotto still was capable of beating him. Cotto's weakness is the uppercut, if he can defend against the uppercut much better and increase his stamina, he'll be a much better fighter

I think he can beat Margarito but like I said, just sharpen his D and he'll be most likely unbeatable because of his great offensive skills.

I personally think at the point where guys like Cotto, Mosley, Pacquiao, or any other elite guy, trainers play a good role...but the fighters are the fighters they're going to be.

Cotto's never been an elusive fighter, and fighting a high defensive game takes away from his offense. He's always been the type to take a punch to give 2 punches. Nothing out of the ordinary in the world of Boxing as a whole dating back to the early days.

If he works on defending the uppercut he's good. A good amount of his defense comes from his jab as well to keep his opponent at bay. As big as margarito was, he was doing that as well in their fight.

People overrate trainers so much on this board. Floyd Sr. especially.
