WBA Continues To Hurt Boxing, Makes John "Super Champ"

1. Interim Super Champion
2. Interim Champion
3. Champion in Recess
4. Interim Champion in Recess
5. Champion Emiritus
6. Interim Champion Emiritus
7. Champion Youth

Just some of my rants. What I don't understand is how they missed the twenty plus pounds between light heavy weight and cruiserweight. Why not have a Heavy Light-Heavyweight division or a Junior Cruiserweight or a Super Super Middleweight Champ. Oh, I forgot, the WBA already has a Super Super Middle Champ as compared to the Original Super Middle champ. You could also have an Original or Crispy Champion and give them a KFC belt. Hell some fighters come into the fight weighing fifteen or twenty pounds heavier since the weigh in so why not just have multiple titles on the line. Its possible they could fight for belts in four different weight divisions in one fight. Also they could say the hell with unification fights and hold a good old cage match. Just put all the alphabet champs in one ring and let them fight it out for king of the hill. And something else to think about.

A fighter can begin his career at Jr. middle and gain just fifty pounds and win titles in six divisions and fight for twenty four belts. And that is just the major belts and not even including the Original or Crispy belts or Inter Continental or Outer Mongolian title belts. All I can say is I am a long time fan and boxing is destroying itself from within right before my eyes and it is becoming the laughing stock of the sports world. And I fear someday, in the not to far off future, it will be taken about as seriously as the WWE.

It all boils down to one question......what can you do about it? The only reason these alphabet belts have so much power is because we take them too seriously(dont say you dont because if you didnt you wouldn't care if they had 10 champions per weight class). WBA wants to call Chris John a "Super Champ", ok thats fine, but he's still a fighter who hasn't really proved much in terms of beating top fighters... to me. Thats why most see fighters with alphabet straps as titlist and not championships. Fitting since they are just titles, "Super Champ", "Regular Champ", "Interim Champ"....who cares.

When is this madness going to end? In the past becoming world champion was an amazing achievement, but thesedays you can pick a title up easy.

Its sickening and it is completely ruining the sport I love.

Time to drop the belts. The best fights are made over THE RING straps. Espn has started shifting toward only noticing RING champions as the true champions. And HBO seems to be leaning that way. With the sanctioning fees thrown out, that leaves more money for the fighters and promoters. And true title that can be traced back to the 20's and 30's. A belt is on the line only to impress the dummy's who do not know a thing about boxing. The best fights are linear title fights in the real divisions 126, 135, 147, 160, 175
