In the 2nd fight Taylor DID outbox Pavlik, landing 46% of his power shots. He lost because he got outworked. Jones doesn't present anywhere NEAR the matchup problems for Taylor that Pavlik did. He's older with stamina issues of his own, doesn't have a high work rate, shorter than Taylor, and has a questionable chin. Comparing him to Pavlik is ridiculous from a style/matchup standpoint.

Lacy, no way does he struggle and Taylor couldn't outbox the "one dimensional" Pavlik. So now I'm supposed to believe he can outbox someone who is faster and an an all around better boxer? How so? Even at his diminished state and age, I still have him beating these two. I'm sorry, I just don't see it the other way.
You gotta remember that Roy looked good against a stationary object and a fighter that is done as a reasonable form of competition for the top guys. Jones' problem is his legs. He doesn't have it in the legs any more to beat a young, active and skilled fighter like Taylor.
You say "couldn't outbox the one-dimensional Pavlik" like it is a disgrace that he lost. Remember that Kelly is yet to lose at 160 and his one loss was against an absolute legend of the sport. What is more significant is that he pretty much DID outbox Pavlik in the second fight, just not enough. He lost that fight because he wasn't active enough, not because he was ineffective.
Lacy's chances against Roy would be landing a big punch and Roy's chin giving way. I agree with the consensus that Jones would most probably beat Lacy at this point, but Jeff getting the stoppage is definately not out of the question. Against Taylor, I am afraid I see no real way Jones can beat him.Comment

117-111, 115-113, 116-112 - is not outboxing someone. Not to mention one judge gave Pavlik the last 6 rounds. And to correct you, the rematch, Taylor landed 35% with Pavliks being 34% in power punches according to compubox. In the first fight, he was 49% with Pav being 48% respectively. My point is/was, that so many people called and still call Kelly Pavlik a one dimensional fighter who just walks you down and ****s you. No boxing skill, athleticism, etc. yet went on to beat the better boxer. Now I'm not saying Jermain CAN'T beat Roy, but to base him beating him off his last 3 performances? No way. I just don't see it.Comment

Oh and also here is a quote from Compubox "Pavlik out-jabbed Taylor in 10 of 12 rounds and in eight of 12 in power punches." So how did Taylor "out box him" ???? My point of using Pavlik is that he was supposed to get outboxed by the better, slicker boxer. Now if Pavlik can outbox Taylor, which he clearly did, how can you expect Roy Jones Jr. to not be able to follow suit?????Comment

And you need to recheck your punchstats; as I said, Taylor landed 46% of his power shots compared to Pavlik's 34%, and 35% of his jabs compared to Pavlik's 30%. Meaningless in the outcome of the fight, but shows he was more efficient when he was active, as was clearly visible to and sighted person in front of the television while the fight happened to be playing.
How can you say Roy beats Taylor based on HIS last three performances? A shot Trinidad who was fighting for the first time in three years, being dismantled by Joe Calzaghe (who BHOP was at least competitive with), and getting a bad stoppage against an out of shape Sheika who'd been out of the ring for 18 months and really wasn't that good to start with.
Don't you see your double standard?
If Taylor had the same ref in the first Pavlik fight and Lacy fight as Jones had in the Sheika fight, he'd have TKO wins in both.
Is Jones capable of making Taylor look amateurish? Probably, at least for a few rounds, until that deer in the headlights look sets in that he got against Calzaghe and Tarver, and he can't pull the trigger any more.Comment

You posting the scorecards for the fight, which even many Pavlik supporters admit were skewed, ESPECIALLY the 117-111, does nothing to disprove that Taylor outboxed Pavlik WHEN HE BOXED, which is what I said. Pavlik won primarily on volume.

No, you'd have to say he outworked him... which goes back to my statement about the Pavlik/Taylor rematch...Comment
