Vitali is too tough for the much smaller Evander
Prime Vitali Klitschko vs Prime Evander Holyfield

Holyfield by decision. Not only was he a good boxer on the outside but he was excellent at cutting off the ring against taller opponents and a very good inside fighter, and also had one of the best chins ive seen. I think he would find a way to work his way inside and out work Vitali who doesn't mind giving up his height.
Vitali is the best heavyweight today IMO, but nothing he has done has convince me he would beat Holyfield in his prime and his opposition today is no where near that of Evander's in the 90s. There is a long way between Juan Carlos Gomez/Samuel Pater to someone like a peak Mercer,Bowe and Tyson( even the post prison Tyson).Comment

Thanks to all for the responses. Some good discussion.Comment

This one is a hard pick for me. I was leaning towards Vitali but I have a feeling this would be a match up that would not be decided in one fight. Possible trilogy.Comment

An aging Holyfield nearly beat a prime Lewis, who IMO is better than Vitali and also more proven.Comment

That version of Tyson would still mop the floor with a lot of good fighters from any era. I'm by no means a Tyson fanboy - I think he's overrated in some respects, but even that version of Tyson was still a very vicious and capable fighter. Bowe beat Holyfield up in the first fight, but in the other two fights when Holyfield was heavier, it was a different story. Foreman was beaten fairly easily, Holyfield just didn't have the power to stop him. Holmes fought a crafty fight and was fortunate with the elbow which cut Holyfield. Holmes was still a good fighter at that stage anyway.Last edited by paul750; 03-22-2009, 07:18 PM.Comment

Holyfield would win if he fought smart which he often didn't. I think that in his prime Evander had the tools to beat Vitali but it's a matter of whether he would use them or not.
Getting into a slugfest with Vitali would not be a smart move.Comment

Bowe has beaten besides Holyfield twice, Jorge Luis Gonzalez, Jesse Ferguson, Michael Dokes, Herbie Hide, and Larry Donald. Most of these guys were undefeated too.Comment
