Floyd fought more at welterweight than Roy did at heavy, naturally he has the fuller ledger of the 2 in those respective divisions. But I didn't mean legitimacy re. accomplishments at the weight. Sorry for the confusion. I was talking about actually belonging at the weightclass at all. Floyd is closer to a natural welter in this latter stage of his career than Roy ever was to a natural heavy. It's hard to guage how big Roy's achievement was to the smallest degree, but it shouldn't be underestimated. Roy had no business being at heavy at all, in reality.

A parallel achievement to Roy > Ruiz for Floyd would be beating Sturm for a 160 belt. Floyd has zero business at middleweight whatsoever. It's an equivalent.

I understand S.G. was using Roy to make a whole different point about fighters above their weight being entitled to cherrypick, though.

floyd mayweather at welterweight = roy jones at light heavyweight, roy was smaller than them all but still took on all comers and knocked them out.

What's your stance on this, is it a legitimate excuse for Floyd to not face Cotto (though I believe he will retire on a Cotto bout eventually)? Or do you feel it's essentially cowardice?

Personally I lean more towards the former opinion

(I couldn't think of a more apt comparison off the top of my head, sorry if you feel it's not appropriate - you understand what I'm getting at though)
Basically its because Floyd has already went up multiple weight classes. Why doesnt anyone get on Ricky for not fighting Cotto, Williams, Margarito and the like? You know why....because there is only one Mayweather.
