  • Golden Boy's Billy Dib most likley next for Mayweather
by David Mayo | The Grand Rapids Press

LAS VEGAS -- A few of the best prizefighters in the world today have all mentioned one fighter who they’d like to challenge. That person has been retired for more than a year and his name is Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr.

“He’s the best pound for pound fighter and I’d like to fight him,” said Billy Dib's just after his sensational victory over Davey Browne.

"He has had great victories, but when you talk about Billy Dib and Floyd Mayweather, he always comes up with excuses -- I'm not the opponent for him, I'm not ready for him," Dib's said. "I earned all I have now. I worked for that. Over the next year, year-and-a-half, I can take the big names."

For months the rumors have filtered that Mayweather was broke, that he’s healing an injured shoulder, or that he’s busy with hip-hop. Boxing is not an option.

Basically they’re all rumors until now.

Mayweather has been seen sparring in his own Las Vegas gym for some time and it was reported by ESPN that he will have a July date on HBO. Leonard Ellerbe spoke with me today and expressed interest in Billy Dib. "Dib's is a fantastic fighter, one that has a lot of hype and a solid fanbase. He's the type of kid Floyd wants to fight on HBO to loosen up before his next pay-per-view. Let me make it clear, Billy Dib's is the guy Floyd wants, he wants him bad."

“When are you going to fight me Floyd?” asked Dib's in front of a dozen or more onlookers. Dib's answered his own question, “whenever you want to fight Floyd, I'm ready.”

Now would be a perfect time for that fight.

I don't understand why you are all discussing whether or not Mayweather deserves to be #1 at welterweight when he comes back... let me see if I can make this clear to you. Mayweather is an undefeated master of the sweet science of boxing. He's quite possibly the best fighter of our generation, we'll have to see how his career plays out (ie will he continue to fight and get his ass kicked several times like ol' Roy). If Mayweather comes back at welter, he's the man at welter. If he comes back at jr. welter he's the man there over hatton or pacquiao. Hell, if he comes back at heavyweight he's the man there too. Mayweather's been doing this all his life, always stays in tremendous shape, and sees all the angles in the ring like no other. There's Mayweather and then there's all these other cats that wish they could be Mayweather.

You were making sense until I read that ****!!!

mayweather is good for boxing because he put boxing in the mainstream!! period!! DOESNT MATTER WHO HE FIGHTS!! HES GOOD FOR BOXING!! so.. im gonna be happy if he does!

so if this thread is about his return... good!! for boxing!!

that doesnt change the fact.. that ppl want him to face real threats... in order to see him display all his arsenal!! to the limit!!!!!!!!

          top welterweights represent that! IMHO

          i dont see him loosing

          against
          pac
          marquez
or any other lightweight or jr welterweight (hatton) out there....

im sure he can beat shane & cotto and any other boxer!! but im also sure that those one are the ones who the major boxingfans think will give him the best challenge and will reward him with the RESPECT he have been asking for...

and dont sayy...he doesnt care about it.. cos right after the baldi fight.. when merchant told him that ppl were leaving in the 8 round.. he almost demand THAT RESPECT!

UFC 100 is on July 11. It's a big showcase for them, their 100th PPV. They are stacking this card to the hilt with high profile fights and HBO wants to go head to head with that? UFC 100 will easily do over a million PPV's, and will probably do over 1.5 million.

****, why not schedule his tuneup on superbowl sunday while they're at it?
Screw UFC. I'm sure if there are fans of both sports, they'd side with watching PBF rip someone apart.

I agree with most of what you are saying tocayo.....

Heres my thing, Fraud is one of the most giftedly talented athletes of our time, its just a damn shame that he never wanted or never cared to prove it against the top guys of his divisions (140-147). Instead, he chose safe fights and fought safety first in most of them. He'd be the most praised fighter had he chose to fight and unify the 140lb and 147lb divisions. But instead he didnt want to lose his "0". Having an "0" on your record is cool and all when you do fight the real threats put up against you, but if you dont fight them, then its worthless...

                  • Don't bring your ass back to the WW division, Mayweather, cause you can't handle it. Stay retired!! Punk! I bet you he won't fight in the WW division again. If he does he better fight where he left off. He's got unfinished business to take care of. Cotto, Berto, Cintron, Clottey....tell me he won't make no f**kin money? No more excuses!!!
