I dont consider bag work beneficial to your punching power, but that is just my opinion. Why would it be?

I've hit the Heavy Bag almost every day for around 40 mins each time for the past 3 years and believe me it increases your power GREATLY! I have a 150lb bag that hangs from some bouncy pole and bounces around, it's WAAAAAAYYYYY harder to hit than a regular bag on a chain. I have knockout power in both hands, and have gained a bit of muscle. My shoulders, triceps, forearms, wrists and back and legs have gotten much stronger. Before I started hitting the bag my wrist would bend when I'd throw a straight punch, but now my wrist doesn't bend at all. I've also improved my technique which increased my power a lot. My right hook is beastly thanks to hitting that damn bag.

So yes, someone who hits the bag would punch much harder than someone who hasn't.

But are'nt you saying its developed your muscles in your upper body that has given you extra punching power?

LOL hell yeah it helps because you become used to high impact with your fist and become more resilent after time. **** it you just develop your punch when you use it more then when you dont

Hearns was skinny as hell also, if coarse he wasn't a big puncher is his amateur days but as a professional he was one of the hardest punchers of all time. Tyson also had natural power when he was a kid without really training.

I believe you can improve your punching power through training, but the guys who have that Tommy Hearns or Julian Jackson type of power are born punchers.

When I weighed 160lbs... I beat out all of my friends who weighed 220 plus pounds when we gauged our punch PSI. It's about technique and it didn't hurt that I had a heavy bag in my apartment and would pound that shyt daily for about 45min minimum.
