.....I don't think it will blow. It certainly won't be a case of zero action or a boring affair. Gomez either gets knocked out or he fights his ass of to a decision. No way that's boring to me. Boring is James Toney and some other fat **** barely touching each other for 24 rounds.

There's mad "Latinos" period down here in FL, the problem is like the majority of people...they can give 2 ****s about Gomez (let alone even know who he is).

...What does Florida have to do with ESPN and their lack of coverage. The fight is in Germany.

I wasn't responding to you, the question was from another poster who asked why Cubans didn't care or want to see Gomez fight.

ESPN will cover the fight just like any other Friday Night Fights type card. You have to understand that Heavyweight Boxing is not a big priority to ESPN considering they have MLB starting, NCAA tourney, NBA Season coming to an end, etc. All those will take priority over doing a big promotion job for a fight that chances are may not live up to the hype (is there even hype about it??).

I don't see why people are surprised about this...

He's fighting for a World title though. He'll be the first ever Cuban to win a heavyweight title if he wins. Surely there are a few of them interested. When a big event like this happens, teams or individuals in sport usually get a large backing from their countrymen, regardless of whether or not most of them are even interested in that particular sport.

Chances are they probably don't even know who Gomez is. I'm sure if they get wind that a Cuban beat Vitali, they'll be like "Wow..."...but then they'll turn the Heat game back on LOL.

I know it sounds funny, but it's true.

Yeah, there's definitely a few reasons this isn't being hyped up much. For a start, the Klitschkos' are not big draws. They're seen as rather boring in the ring and out of it, and that's by the people who actually know who they are. Then you have Gomez, who isn't even that well known by boxing fans let alone anybody else. The little that some people have seen of him hasn't been enough to impress them. That's partly due to the fact he hasn't fought in America much, partly due to his style, and partly due to him not fighting to his potential in the fights he has been seen in.

If it were a, let's say, Ike Ibeabuchi, who was coming off some devastating knockouts and had a bandwagon behind him, then it may well by a different story. I actually think the Klitschko vs Gomez fight might be fun, despite the possibility it may be dull.

The Klitschkos are hugely popular in Europe, but for some reason they get no press or bad press in the US.

Vitali is one of the most exciting heavyweights ever. Anyone who says he isn't is obviously prejudiced.

boxing should be put back on the map with its coverage. and not just with this fight, but on sportsillustrated, New York Times, and CNN.

who are they kidding, this is a significant fight, it's the heavyweight division, and it's for a title.

all you ever see nowadays is this ****ing basketball.
