Once again, lets get realistic here. Cortez was the ref for the Castillo fight. He let Hatton fight on the inside. Why? Because Castillo let Hatton work on the inside as well. Castillo didn't hold right away or create seperation. Castillo, if you watch the fight, also tried to fight the same way Hatton tried to on that fight. Neither hooked arms, they were throwing punches.
With Mayweather, both (obviously implying Mayweather, as well) hooked arms and Mayweather didn't let Hatton work inside. He used his elbows to create seperation and then pushed off. Legal or not. When a fighter does that, the ref is forced to seperate. You'll hear all refs say, work your way out or work while you're in there. Mayweather didn't allow work. When that happens, the ref is forced to seperate the fighters.
The point deduction was bull****, I will give you that. Nonetheless, if a guy is bent over the middle rope and you punch at the back of his head, you're putting that point in the referee's hands.
