He was never knocked down at Cruiser. In fact I had Eubank winning the first Thompson fight. Shame about the second fight being stopped on cuts. Make no mistake, Eubank was one of the toughest mother****ers in the sport!
    Did he get dropped twice?

    lol

****! i have the fight obviously havent watched it in a while
I remember the first knockdown in the first round
which looked like a flash knockdown

And yeh im not claiming Eubank was shot or near it cause he put on a great performance against Thompson twice which i also thought he won one of them 2 fights they had...

Yeah, he was down in the first round and I think it was the 10th? I need to watch it again to be sure. Haven't seen that fight (or should I say "war") for a while.

Right, nah it was more of a touchdown than a knockdown, although he did get the standing 8. Just checked the vid. He was definitely staggered several times in the fight as well though.

Anyway, my main point still stands: Calzaghe hit much harder back in the day.

A one sided 12 round beating is much more embaressing than a KO unless the beating leads to a KO. Pavlik was embaressed, Hopkins stopped Glen Johnson, Tito Trinidad, Oscar guys who never been stopped before and Hopkins did it. At 160 in B-hops prime he would destroy Pavlik worse, he would TKO him so would Calzaghe at 168.

Pavlik has no answers when he's confronted with lateral movement Calzaghe and B-Hop have that in spades. Calzaghe and B-Hop may not even have to drop Pavlik they may just make the ref stop the fight from the beating he's taking.
Whoa, your right I almost forgot. One of the ATG Middle-Light Heavy weights in Bernard Hopkins, knocked out two good Welterweights. Also 12 loss Glen Johnson.

Johnson had no losses before Hopkins beat him! To this day, he is the only man to T/KO him.

Eubank got countered lunging in and his gloves touched down, but he wasn't dropped. More a matter of exhaustion showing than anything. The KD in the first-round was Eubank being caught cold, but it looked great.

Joe hits with less single shot force than he used to, it's true.

But the Calzaghe of later years isn't the pillow-puncher he's made out to be. He still had plenty enough to conceivably stop Pavlik at the time a fight between the two was mooted, especially with the volume of shots I'd expect him to land.

I'm reading/posting and watching football at the same time, blame it on that.
