Its not whether or not he quit that I have the issue with, its what the modern, immature boxing culture associates with the word "quit". Israel Vazquez is a brave warrior, he would never give up a fight he could win, ever. Its similar to the Cotto situation. Neither guy pulled a "No mas", they gave it all they had, and in that sense they are not "quitters".

in boxing, cotto and vasquez quitting arent ******* or cowards, they fought their hearts out, a true quitter is Francisco Lorenzo, my boy Oscar De La Hoya(asked to fight-Pac-then quit), Roberto Duran, Acelino Freitas, Kermit Cintron, Andrew Golota, Floyd Mayweather Jr*,Etc.

Kellerman was definitely wrong for that, I mean if Vasquez quit and never fought Raf again...then yeah, that would obviously leave a stain on Izzy. But he quit and jumped right back in with Raf 2 more times, proving that it was a serious injury.

I agree.... He fought Marquez 3 times within a year. So, it's not like he was afraid to get back in there. Plus the injury Vazquez had was more due to him not being able to breathe.(not being broken, because it was not broken) The doctor whom performed the surgery said he was surprised Vazquez hang on as long as he did. Because one nostril was 90% closed and the other was 100% closed.

In Izzy's case, if doctors had the ability to do instant x-rays (or whatever) in the corner, they might have stopped the fight. To me, there is a fine line with what happened in that first fight. If a doctor would have stopped it for the same reason Izzy stopped, then it would have been OK, right?

It's this textbook definition of "quitting" that people are adhering to that is problematic. If it's just semantics, then people are right, he didn't want to go on, he wanted to stop, so he technically "quit." But automatically he's lumped in with every other quitter and there's no differentiating the circumstances specific to each fighter and the fight they were in. What Vazquez and Guerrero did are different, but sure enough, you can guaran-damn-tee that somebody is gonna be on here one day (probably as we speak) listing off all the quitters in boxing and will include both of these guys on their bull**** list.

The thing that's messed up about this is that you often have fans talking about how sad it is that a former fighter is now punch drunk. Yeah, it's really sad, but people will **** on a guy for not taking more damage. For every person who thinks a fighter is a brave warrior, there's another person who thinks that same fighter is ****** for taking so much punishment.
