  • ..MAX KELLERMAN Basically Calling ISRAEL VAZQUEZ A Quitter...

Here's a quote from The Ring Magazine...

'I like Israel Vazquez a lot. Against Rafael Marquez, in their first fight, his nose was mangled and he stopped fighting. He quit. I'm not saying he shouldn't have quit; I would have quit long before he did. The vast majority of people who ever lived would have quit.

'I'm not saying it was a bad decision or that he shouldn't have quit. But what we demand of fighters in order to say that they're truly great is that they don't quit in those circumstances. And he did. Now, Vazquez came back and won two incredible fights against Marquez, and if you want to call him a great fighter, I'm not going to argue with you, reallu. But he quit.'

This was for a feature about how he'd do against Wilfredo Gomez.

Nonetheless, your thoughts on these comments.

The last two fights disprove the notion to me.

Well, he's right. Israel did quit. But as he said, he came back to win the next two fights in dramatic fashion and helped bring us fight fans, the best trilogy since Barrera/Morales.

Make no mistake about it : Israel Vazqez is a great fighter. Period.

Nope. No matter what he does in his other fights, he still quit. You can't just erase it from his record. No matter how many good showings you have after that, you still quit one more time than you should have.

I voted for the last option. Kellerman is an ass.

Quitting means you decide to not go on, doesnt matter the circumstances. Yes Vazquez and Cotto quit under the definition of quitting, do I blame them? Not one second, especially in Cotto's case, he was possibly getting hit by bricks.

if some fighter quits because of a very obvious reason that will compromise his well being, will that make him a lesser fighter?

man, do you still remember levander johnson? or that some korean that mancini killed?

theres a difference between being courageous and being ******...

the guerrero event last saturday was very different though...

Kellerman was definitely wrong for that, I mean if Vasquez quit and never fought Raf again...then yeah, that would obviously leave a stain on Izzy. But he quit and jumped right back in with Raf 2 more times, proving that it was a serious injury.
