I dont' care how hard hits, Valero is too flawed for Marquez' pin point precision.

I like Valereo but he doesn't seem as important as they say. He looks kinda bad when fights. I think when the early summer comes around and if Marquez wants to get back in the ring, Valereo should be the first choice. I don't think it would put that much strain on Marquez.Comment

Wel, Valero is gonna fight atleast three times before Marquez could even fight him. In the tournement, there's 8 guys, so if it goes thru, he has 3 fights planned. A step up each time, as well. If he loses, then forget the whole conversation all together.Comment

I dont care how hard Valero hits, JMM outboxes the **** out of hi right now. Plus JMM Power is not bad at all, not to mention his accuracy. Valero needs like 1 or 2 years to be at his level. Ill give him only a punchers chnace at this point, and this is comming from a Valero fan!!!!!!!!!!Comment

Im tired of people on here always saying that you have to pay your dues. Why? Im a Floyd fan and I even hate it when the Floyd fans say that. Everyone always talks about how boxing was better back in the old days but yet no one wants to treat these fighters like that. Back in the old days if you had alot of hype then you could get a big fight without having other big names on your resume and while you were still young.
I put Valero in a different boat then any other young fighter because he had that other problem to deal with that clearly set him back. If it wasnt for that then he wouldve had a bunch of big fights by now and everyone would be saying that this is a good matchup. Look, IM not saying that he's on that level but if he wants it then let him have it. I dont think you really have to pay dues but I e****ally dont think he has to pay them because of the simple fact that he would normlay be much further along then where he is now. Plus, if you keep telling people they have to pay dues to get a big fight then they end up like Guzman and never get them.
Im not going to say that JMM has to fight him since he's older and wants big money fights but if JMM cant get Floyd, Pac, or Hatton then I think he should fight Valero next. We need more of that stuff. Guys like Floyd & Pac were champs when they were young but now its like we dont want guys to have any big fights until there 26 and have worked there way up. Let these guys fight from jump if they want it. The same goes with guys like Kahn & the other fast hand LW who's name has slipped me. If they want to wait then let them wait but if they want to jump right now to the big boys then let them do it. However, like I said, just treat them like the old days. By that I mean dont hold a loss against them. Its still an L but lets not act like they suck because it use to happened all the timeComment

I haven't seen much of Valero to say if he would or would not beat JMM but one thing is plain to see is that Valero has power and JMM gets hit a lot & if what they are saying about Valero in this article about his skills, power & defense, then he could possibly be a threat to JMM as well as Pacquiao. I'm a lil tired of all this he needs more fights before he gets this guy or that guy. The reality of it is the economy is BAD!! so the best thing for the sport of boxing & promoters to do is to make the best fights possible to have people cough up that $. Valero next fight is for a title, I say
if he wins it then he should become a candidate to fight some big names.
I think the thing that is hurting boxing is that promoters
keep making excuses & matching their guys with gift wins.
For instance you have Sergio Mora/Kelly Pavlik talks but Arthur Abraham is out there? That's the fight WE want to see but Arum
will say "Arthur Abraham is not big enough yet in the States"?Last edited by GRUSTLER; 03-10-2009, 03:02 AM.Comment

There are some good points being raised here, however, it's hard not to see it from another perspective. The usual route for a fighter to take is to earn his shot by working his way up the rankings. Consider the risk-reward ratio for a fighter such as Pacquiao or Marquez taking on a lesser-known challenger. They have to go through the same process, hard training camps, pay the same people, and still make a smaller fight (such as Valero) worth their while. These guys have both earned their current and deserving status as some of the best fighters in the world without cutting corners.
It would be an interesting match-up, if only to gauge Valero's talent, but then there are numerous other fighters they could take on and earn much more money in doing so. Boxing is a business. Add in the fact that Pacquiao and Marquez are closing in on the twilight years of their careers and it should be understandable as to why they only want the biggest, most lucrative fights.
Valero is promising. Nothing more, nothing less. With a few more fights under his belt against quality opposition, Edwin can start making a bigger name for himself. What he's doing is calling out the P4P #1 and #2 fighters on the planet, yet he hasn't proved he is worth it. He does need to earn his place, and this, unfortunately for him, requires getting in the queue and working for it, because there exists a long list of fighters who also want to take on the likes of Pacquiao and Marquez, who are more deserving and bring more to the table.
Beating Valero at this point doesn't do a great deal for either of them. I don't blame Valero for trying, but it's slightly unrealistic. Maybe not so much in a year or two. On the other hand, by then, both Pacquiao and Marquez will possibly be retired!
