He had the fight with Pacquiao in the bag at 135, freddie roach, bob arum and pacquiao ALL wanted Guzman. Then something changed after soto. Either bob arum didn't like guzman's style of fighting and didn't think it would be exciting (although that doesn't explain why they fought solis) or bob feared something about guzman. IMO he didn't like the risk/reward because lets face it, pacman has NEVER fought a slick boxer like guzman so there is a bit of a fear of the unknown....how would pacman do against a fighter like that?? Either way pacquiao cant really be faulted here because he was the star and was in the position to fight bigger names, etc. marquez on the other hand wasn't there yet and had no excuse to pass up on guzman when he had the shot.

just like valero had a pacquiao fight in the bag right? in the end what was valero? a guy whose name is brought up as a possible opponent when arum is negotiating for another fight.

david diaz had a belt at 135.

david diaz is a top rank fighter.

david diaz is mexican which means more fans and continues the mexican vs. pacquiao rivalry.

believe me , diaz had the fight in the bag more than joan guzman.

maybe after diaz if the oscar fight didn't happen.

but no one is gonna turn down $10-15 million to fight oscar to fight joan guzman. lol

barrera , marquez , pacquiao and morales were all ranked above guzman at 130!

first it was barrera and morales on top at 130 when guzman wasn't even ranked at 130 yet.

after pacquiao moved up to 130......it was barrera , morales and pacquiao ranked above guzman.

after morales retired and marquez moved up......it was barrera , marquez and pacquiao ranked above guzman.

those 4 guys all fought each other when they were ranked #1-3 in the division!

that's like saying guzman ducked valero when valero was #1 at 130 when the only reason valero became #1 at 130 was because guzman left!

ugggggh great that you bolded the first sentence even though I went on to say that pacman isn't at fault because he was a big star and could go on to bigger/better fights. Marquez was not in the same position as pacman at the time and my opinion is that he should have fought guzman to unify to force bigger fights for himself (which obviously doesn't matter NOW but at the time it was viewed him ducking guzman, not too mention marquez career has gone up while guzman's has gone down).

this fight wont happen. marquez is looking for a pay day. cuz he wants mayweather, which is no different then guzman based on style. just more pop on the punch. guzman will probably fight diaz or barrera/khan winner.

but I just don't see it, the only way these two guys meet up is in a sparring session

and

it's going to be tough for Guzman to get big name opponents because of the weigh in issue from last year
