remember , manny and jmm moved up to 135 in 2008.
guzman's biggest win for me was soto at the end of 2007.
just doesn't add up.
if he wanted a fight with those 2 he needed a lot more name and resume.
1-2 years later to now......he STILL doesn't have a name or resume.Comment

Depends on if he's staying at 135 or going to 140.
If I were him, I'd stay at 135 and take on someone. He'll probably go to 140 and fight campbell methinks, but I think that would be a mistake. Not saying he'll lose but 140 is pushing it for marquez and campbell could be a very tough opponent for him at that weight.Comment

so we got 2 HOFers who has fought almost every big name from 126-130 and they DUCKED a joan guzman?

Well in that case the blame for every "duck" in the sport goes directly to the promoters.
I don't entirely see it that way.
Yes, sure promoters have a lot to do with it and they probably should receive the most of the blame (for example Calzaghe comes to mind), but ultimately the fighter can choose who they want to fight. JMM could have unified the belts and placed himself in a fantastic position if he beat guzman, rather than beating Rocky who everyone and their mama knew JMM would beat. I mean Rocky got beat by Soto and Soto was ranked #2 fighting the #1 guy Guzman. Rocky wasn't even in the picture!
not to mention that golden boy promotions has much more say than the marquez's camp. when you pair fighters under your banner, its easier to make fights, and you come out with more money. the first opponent was under their banner. the second opponent was under their banner.
the fight was originally going to be on PPV so it even ads more to why they wanted to pair up 2 of their fighters. and when you think about marketability...Juan Manuel Marquez vs Rocky Juarez was going to bring in more money than Juan Manuel Marquez vs Joan Guzman, not just for GBP but for Marquez.Last edited by Zarco; 03-03-2009, 04:41 PM.Comment

That could turn out to be ugly like the Derick Gainer track meet. JMM's best opponent choices are those willing to stand and trade because thats where his timing prowess shines. Guzman could give him problems like Chris John did, which is why he has no business calling out Floyd.Comment

How can you even make such a comparison when Guzman was ranked #1 and a title holder?? Crazy talk and you know it. Unify the damn belts and become the man to force yourself a fight with bigger opponents, but marquez went with the easy opponent. Marquez got lucky Bob Arum didn't want pacman fighting guzman either because if not, they would have fought in Canada and marquez would be left crying in a dark corner somewhere by himself sucking on his thumb curled up in the fetal position.
what are you talking about?
barrera , marquez , pacquiao and morales were all ranked above guzman at 130!
first it was barrera and morales on top at 130 when guzman wasn't even ranked at 130 yet.
after pacquiao moved up to 130......it was barrera , morales and pacquiao ranked above guzman.
after morales retired and marquez moved up......it was barrera , marquez and pacquiao ranked above guzman.
those 4 guys all fought each other when they were ranked #1-3 in the division!
and you're gonna say they ducked the #4 guy?
that's like saying guzman ducked valero when valero was #1 at 130 when the only reason valero became #1 at 130 was because guzman left!Comment
