You make it sound like Hopkins' rabbit punch was the only dirty part of the part. It was a bad punch on Hopkins' part, but Echols was fighting dirty all night. What about that body slam? Disgraceful.

I still don't see how the first Allen fight counts as a defense.

That's just nuts man, I can't believe Hopkins wasn't worried about accidentally killing him with that shot.
the fight was a mess.....both dudes were foulin'!

We hear a lot about Joe Calzaghe's title defenses, but many of Hopkin's opponents were no better.

Echols almost broke Hopkins shoulder with a WWF style body slam. If anyone should have gotten DQ'ed it's Echols.

Yeah except Echols knocked Charles Brewer out in three rounds and that's among Joe's five best wins IMO. Worse 6-7. Echols isn't that high on Hopkins' list.

Furthermore, Antwun Echols wasn't a bad fighter...at least before Hops took a few years off his career. BOTH of those fights are just brilliant and I encourage all boxing fans to watch them. Hopkins boxed so beautifully in the first fight and showed incredible skill. Then in the rematch got down and dirty and straight up out-manned a rugged ****er in Echols. So rugged he moved to 168 and damaged Brewer with every punch that landed. I miss those Executioner days.
