Past prime: Over the hill. Past their best.

If that definition is OK then you can start picking me apart.

      Plz proved me wrong..

You can say he is a prime welterweight..because he was or is in his prime and his last division was welterweight..but compared to other welterweight in the division... Mayweather is small...

If Mayweather Has grown into a Natural WW, What Have the Other Fighters who have been in the WW division Grown into if that is their 1st or 2nd Division..?
      or
do you think that Mayweather is the only fighter who Grows in the Division?

Name 1 welterweight floyd is bigger then??

See the problem is people got used to floyd fighting bigger fighters all the time, that when he fights somebody his own size or smaller therE is now a problem...

How come people dont say Paul Williams vs. Floyd is a mismatch
But people will say Floyd vs. JMM is a mismatch??

      Paul Started at 160
Floyd started at 130 (where he spent 69% of his career)
      JMM started at 126

Floyd has spent less then 10% of his career fighting above 140...less then 10%

So You tell me who is closer in size....

I can do that with the whole Welterweight division not just Paul...
maybe it is pointless trying to get you too see the point...but that is the point.

What is the problem with Floyd fighting fighters who are the same size as him or smaller then him???

why does floyd have to be at a disadvantage in order for it to be a fair fight???

Why is ok for Floyd to fight a fighter coming from 160 but not a fighter coming from 130....? when floyd came from 130??
or any division close to 130?
You're stating that Floyd is closer in size to Hatton, Pacquiao, and JMM compared to the other Welters (which is nonsense to me). So with that same mentality, why didn't Floyd take a fight with Hatton at 140 where Hatton was the recognized champion? Because it was for the 147 title maybe? Was Floyd NOT the welterweight champion? What would be the point of Floyd even being at 147 if he didn't match up against any of the other fighters in the division?

On one side you're saying Floyd's accomplishments shouldn't be solely looked at what he did at 147 but more on what he did prior and where he became a multi-division champ. But then in the same breath you say he gains nothing from beating a guy like Cotto who after the Mosley fight was the #1 guy, was undefeated, and was also a WW champ, for Floyd to fight after he beat Hatton.

Or let me ask you this, if and when he returns...what weight will he be fighting at? Sure as hell ain't anywhere from 130-140

A fighter is past his prime when he begins to slow down - first the foot speed, then the hand speed, etc etc.

But the **** you asking me for? RAY LEONARD said himself that Hagler wasn't the fighter he once was. It's not about how many years he went undefeated or that he actually won a fight while (gasp!) being past his prime! Jesus Christ. Get a grip, dude.

IMDAZED sums it up very well.

Floyd was absolutely in his prime when he retired. The fighters you mentioned absolutely was not.

because hatton didnt want to fight at 140, he pulled a pavlik..because he knew if he lost to floyd at 147 he still could go back to 140 and be the man...
his dad was even quoted saying as such.

Please and i mean Please do read....I explain in complete detail...

No matter how much you Mainstream Hardcore Fans like to think.
Beating Miguel Cotto will not overnight change history.

Miguel Cotto is not a great fighter...!
He is on the cusp of greatness.., and that is a huge difference.

Floyd did not NEED to fight Cotto...Would it had been cool if he did...sure..
but would that fight make Floyd any greater than what floyd is today....simply because cotto is not a great fighter..he is on the cusp of greatness...

you have to remember He was already recognized as the P4P BEST since 2005
He was already recognized as the undisputed Lineal Champion
He was already recognized around the world the best boxer alive.
He was already accomplish what no other fighter in history has never done

HE IS THE GREATEST FIGHTER OF HIS GENERATION. You can not accomplish more than that while reminding active.! Thats the point.

So if Floyd fought Cotto, It would Enhance His legecy to what...?

                  "Greatest of His Generation"....?
                  -Guess What?

                  He already is....

Pac has already taken that title from him, when he beats Hatton it will just cement it.

If Floyd fought Cotto it would enhance his legacy as actually taking a risk and for the first time in his career fighting somebody he could lose too.

So my dude, you are saying that as because Hagler didnt dominate Mugabi.. that he was past his prime...???

Me Personally I do not think Hagler was past his prime before the ray fight.
Ray Leonard can say what he wants to say but that doesnt mean it is true...Is ray leonard now the arbiter of who is in their prime and who is not???

Ali called Frazior all kind of bums before they fought, does that mean frazior was a bum????

I think that this specfic argument is going to go nowhere so instead of going back and fourth...
do you honestly believe Floyd is the only fighter to retire in his prime? and if so, why hate on the man for that... Why does boxing have to decide when a fighter has to retire or not...

Floyd has done something that hardly nobody has ever done.
Walk away from the sport on top, and people cant stand it.
He is like barry sanders in that reguard.
He left when they was no doubt who the best was and is.

Their is no unfinish business, because their are no undisputed champions out there to fight. Floyd retired a undisputed champion. undisputed...meaning everybody reconize him as the man.

The only fight that makes sense right now is Pacquaio. because he is the pound 4 pound #1 fighter in the sport.

I say floyd only comes back to fight Pacquaio or a undisputed champion in a division.

                      PERIOD.
