After the fight Hatton was asked about fighting Floyd and hatton said 'maybe in 2 yrs I will be ready for the likes of Floyd'.

Not true. What he actually said in June 2005, immediately after the Gatti fight, in the interviews I read at the time was:

"I'd like to fight him next. You have to say that (what he did against Gatti) was absolutely masterful. Gatti's no mug, but that's how Mayweather made him look.

"I've said all along I'm scared of nobody and that's not changed.

"And there is no reason that Mayweather should fear me with performances like that.

"(US lightweight) Diego Corrales has also been mentioned, but I just have to sit down with my team and see what we can work out."

Then in November 2005, after Floyd had already moved to Welterweight to fight Mitchell - and after he had declined an invitation to be ringside at Hatton's fight with Maussa in order to promote a Mayweather-Hatton fight early in the New Year - Hatton called him out again but got no response:

A unification match against Hatton seemed an obvious fight to make, with a classic boxer-versus-fighter class of styles, but more talk now surrounds Mayweather moving on from tonight's non-title fight to challenge Zab Judah, the American who is regarded as the world No1 welterweight, holding the WBC, WBA and IBF belts.

Adding the WBA belt will make it easier to make fights against the big names."

The reality suggests Mayweather is looking elsewhere. Tonight the undefeated American should be too fast and accurate for his fellow countryman, Mitchell, 35, who has had only one low- profile victory since being bombed out in three rounds by Tszyu last year in the Australian's final fight before his epic confrontation with Hatton.

"I'll be undisputed world welterweight champion in 2006," said Mayweather in the run-up to tonight's fight. "I'm going to win titles in four divisions [he has previously been a world champion at super-featherweight and lightweight]. Hopefully, Judah will be next."

Four months later, when Mayweather gave up his belt, Mayweather's advisor Ellerbe tried to rewrite history and claimed Hatton didn't want to fight him, but that was simply untrue.

PAC will NOT fight at 147 again...He know if he fights a legitimate 147 pounder the results would be different. He will fight them at a catch weight between 140 and 145.

Floyd called out Mosley when Mosley was high up in the rankings.Before Mosley lost to Wright Floyd mocked him.Telling Mosley to stop listening to Jin and take the fight.
When Oscar was dangerous ,Floyd called him out.Oscar replied by telling Floyd he was a spoilt brat.People even forget Floyd went up to 154 to take the fight he was not expected to win.Oscar had just obliterated Mayorga in his previous fight.

Floyd wanted Wright when Wright was that dangerous.Wright would go on to fight against Taylor and Hopkins.

Floyd is the best fighter out there.People might hate him for other things but his courage,boxing wits and intelligence are unquestionable.He's awesome

JMM had a great win yesterday but Diaz was tailor made for him. Diaz is a very good fighter but he has little defense, no lateral movement, and hes all guts and heart but little strategy.

Hes very fast with his punches but he does the same stuff over and over again, hes dangerous when he gets you on the ropes but he doesnt seem to have the power in his punches to take someone elite out. When hes hurt he doesnt think safety, he just goes back in there ******** it all.

All Marquez had to do was let him get a little tired even if losing some rounds, hit him strong to the body and then when he was getting slower and predictable just pick the right spots with bad intentions. And that was it. Floyd is an all different animal in the ring and im sure Oscar knows it. Anyway great winn for JMM yesterday, was a great entertaining fight where nobody held their punches back.

If it was that simple, why could no one do it so well before Marquez? How can a guy be a two time champion in one of the deepest divisions in boxing without someone just "Getting him a little tired, hit him strong to the body..." etc etc?

I swear it's hilarious how people look at things. Diaz is suddenly a no defense, hack brawler with little skills that anyone with half a brain could beat.

floyd beats any of those fighters.. mosley is spent, cotto is done and pacman is overrated. marquez you have got to be kidding. if mayweather wants an extra few million then he should come on back, none of those fighters pose a threat. all those fighters have suffered defeats against fighters that can't hold a candle to mayweather. these post are so funny!!1 of course, oscar wants floyd to fight "his fighters" that's money in his pocket and he can't make any real money with any of his fighters wihout floyd. if i was mayweather i wouldn't fight any of golden boy's fighters without demanding 50 million.

Hatton said so many things including how he wasnt ready to go over to america without taking a few fights yet before he faces the P4P fighter at the time, He ask us to be patient and that he would fight Mayweather eventually which he did, But he did say he wasnt ready for Mayweather yet.

And when he was ready he took the fight...simple.
