What if Pacquiao was asking for 25 million? Nobody would be able to fight him. Basically, it'd be an extraordinarily unreasonable amount to ask for and would rule out any possibilities of him fighting anyone except who HE chose to fight.
You need to look into the reasons why Roy made such high demands to fight in Germany. Either why Michalczewski should have been the one to get the passport out, not Roy.

Roy was #1. You come to him.

You got me. I actually saw both fights live at the time, but had forgotten how the first fight ended. I'm slowly getting dementia ........ So I retract that statement. DM put on a nasty acting display in that first fight. He was looking for a way out of a fight he was losing. And he found it.

Believe me, I already know the reasons why they never fought, having read about it plenty. It's a shame that these two never could agree to fight outside their respective comfort zones. Both are to blame for not finding neutral ground to fight on, and the fans deserved to see such a fight, but that's just the way it goes. It's a business, I understand that.

He also avoided the rematch for years. Ahh well...good ole Dariusz. proof that hiding behind a belt will get you nowhere. Such a shame...in his prime he was a very, very good fighter.

Roy would've beaten Michalczewski with one hand tied behind his back!

            Oh, IMO.

Quite possibly. Still, I do wish they'd squared off, compromised just a little bit and fought on neutral ground.

After DM Rocchigiani defeated our John Scully in '97 and Michael Nunn in '98. That was the only fights he had before the rematch in 2000. I seem to remember that the long delay in the rematch to come about had more to it than DM avoiding him. But I really cannot remember the details.

                  http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.php?title=Fight:12432

(Before this bout, then-WBC Light Heavyweight champion Roy Jones made his intentions to fight Heavyweight James 'Buster' Douglas on May 20, 1998 instead of Michael Nunn, the WBC mandated challenger. The WBC title was then declared vacant and contested between #1 rated Nunn and #2 rated Graciano Rocchigiani. However, in June of 1998 the WBC illegally down-graded Rocchigiani's classification to that of an 'interim' champion, and then stripped him outright, having declared Roy Jones as being the champion in recess. Rocchigiani sued the WBC and was awarded $31 million in damages. Also as a result of this lawsuit, a United States District Judge retroactively restored Rocchigiani’s official WBC Light Heavyweight championship status in April 2003, but only from 03-28-1998 to 04-15-2000, when he lost to Dariusz Michalczewski.)

Alcoholism, personal issues, etc. Graciano also backed out of a proposed Jones fight as well and ended up being replaced by David Telesco. I was absolutely disgusted that Dariusz actually lured him out of retirement after all that and fought him coming off a two-year layoff.
