I was never a big Taylor fan but I do have a lot of respect for him for fighting Pav and Hop twice as well as Winky (which to me was a very entertaining fight).

He had some stinkeroo's for a spell there, but not many look good against Spinks.

And he seemed to perfectly willing to fight all comers, which I rate highly.

wow. I'd love for all those people who criticized Taylor for fighting THESE guys to show me how Pavlik is even half the champ Taylor was
I think the main criticism is that 3 of the 5 spent a good majority of their career at 154, and that stemmed from the criticism that alot of the top fighters Taylor took on on his way up were drawn from the 154 ranks.

Taylor did look suspect against most of these opponents.
Hopkins fights could have been judged either way (personally I scored them both for Taylor)
Wright could have gone either way, just as many people felt Taylor lost (once again I scored it for Taylor)
Ouma was brought in especially for Taylor to look good against, and Taylor looked decent, but failed to produce the KO his management wanted.
Spinks fight was a complete mess, but that was more Spinks fault than Taylors. Some people say Spinks won, but I say they are crazy.
Pavlik..... Well Taylor lost to Pavlik so I don't know what to say.

Personally I never had a problem with Taylor's 160 defenses as what you brought up about their standing is true.

i don't know anybody who criticized taylor, as far as opponents go......i'm a hopkins fan, so i thought my boy was robbed, and at the time i didn't like taylor.........but 1 thing i always admitted is that dude didn't duck anybody.........

and to the guy above, talking about "small guy," "small guy," "small guy," etc. etc.

          gtfoh!!!!!!!

fighting a guy who campaigned at a weight class one rung lower shouldn't be held against somebody. if you pay attention to boxing, one thing you should've noticed by now is that size is not as important as ppl make it out to be. it's not as important as the quality of the particular opponent.

you mean to tell me, since PW is fighting at MW now, you'd give him more credit for beating andy kolle, than if he were to beat forrest or dzindziruk? b/c they are JMW?

Lot of people never gave Toylor any credit. Everything he did in his career was not erased by Pavlik.

Here is another one just because Taylor beat B-Hop twice does that mean that B-Hop is garbage also?

Your argument is for **** because you talk in absolutes, there is no such thing as a black and white argument in boxing it is all grey. All that matters is what shade of grey we prefer.

I actually thought Jermain looked best against Wright (in a losing effort...even though he was awarded a draw). He performed well and fought a smart fight, abandoning a tactical fight with a better tactician.

Taylor maybe landed 3 notable punches against Hopkins in 2 fights. Maybe.
still bitter over that I see. too bad fights are scored by rounds, not by damage or Hopkins would have won the first fight.

All of Hopkins' biggest wins have come against smaller men. Do we criticize him 24/7 on here? We should.

                  Wright - smaller
                  Pavlik - smaller
                  Trinidad - smaller
                  De La Hoya - smaller

his only impressive win is Tarver if we're playing the small man game
