Who will be remembered as the better fighter???

I agree for the most part. What big names does RJJ have?? A green Hopkins and Toney?? Ruiz?? Tarver shattered RJJ's legacy. Every mainstream person I know, follows Hopkins a lot more and his name definitely rings out more. He was much better technically, has the better resume, the 20 title defenses. Hopkins definitely. Plus RJJ was knocked out by Tarver and Johnson, embarrassed by Tarver again, and then dominated by Calzaghe. Meanwhile, Hopkins should of gotten the decision vs Calzaghe or at least it was that close. Hopkins EASY. This is not 2000.Comment

I can understand everyone's response nearly (and nearly everyone's logic) in choosing either hopkins or jones...
both are fantastic fighters...once in a lifetime fighters...
if you meaure up skill with accomplishments and pair them side by side its pretty much even and majority of it is left up to useless arguing...
for example...
hopkins made 20 something successful defenses of the middleweight title
roy was the first fighter in 100 years to win a middleweight title and a heavyweight title
you can go back and forth all day as to which is the bigger accomplishment and which had the tougher opponents in that time frame, etc. etc. etc.
but overall these two fighter are two of the greatest i've been alive to see fight...granted im only 20 years old...but for their era...they were the best in my opinion.Comment

Good post, I pretty much agree with all of that. I picked Roy Jones, Jr. but I gotta admit it is a close one... they both had excellent careers.I think the two are very close... Obviously you know my pick... but its still close... I think a lot of people look at the fact that roy got knocked out and ended in his mid 30's and bernard has gone on to successfully fight into his 40's, and because of that.. they just think Bernard has had the better career...
My rebuttal is... Roy already accomplished his legacy by the time he was KOed...
ROY > 20's mid 30's
Bernard> 30's Early 40's
The other thing I do look at is... Roy has moved UP to always fight his competition and was usually the smaller guy... where as many of Bernards wins are against guys coming UP to beat him.
But that doesnt mean I think its a no brainer... If someone says bernard, I can more then understand.Comment
