Maybe Cotto should consider following in thier footsteps. Matching Cotto against guys like Gomez and Jennings while in his prime is NOT going to help his career.
i agree 100% cotto should speak up and demand the fights he wants. he should leave arum. i would love to see cotto vs berto in june by the way, **** cintron he does nothing for cotto.

Taking that fight without a tuneup would be both foolish and make it a harder sell without people seeing Cotto back to his old destructive self. Now that everything has changed, the WBO title Cotto figures to win in this fight will give him some added leverage for whatever fight ends up being made in June.
Cotto/Gomez was also a tune-up in preperation for the Cotto/Margarito fight. Nobody recognizes when u beat a virtual nobody. Beating nobody's doesnt boost your marketability. Actually, Cotto/Gomez was one, if not THE least watched HBO fight last year according to the neilsen ratings. Fans want competitive matchups. Not "give me" fights.

Cotto is a great fighter. You are right, arum is mind ****ing cotto into matches he shouldnt fight and could ruin his career if sum bum lands a lucky punch. If it were me i'd rather lose to a good fighter thats known than a unknown bum.... And berto /cotto would of been a nice fight. Even collozo?

And that's why HBO didn't buy this fight. The difference is that Gomez was merely a stay busy fight. After being badly beaten Cotto needs a confidence booster before he takes a big fight again. And I truly believe that the public will also feel better about Cotto on a major PPV if he looks like his old self again. Boxing fans have notoriously short memories.

Because the money that either Cotto or Pavlik are getting paid alone is way more than ESPN pays for an entire show.
