Man, you were upset as anybody when Castillo failed to make weight. Just because Nate is your boy doesn't mean you're allowed to let this one go. I'm willing to bet you were pissed as hell at Guzman too. You're supposed to be unbiased about this. Don't give Nate a pass just because he's your friend. There are supposed to be rules in this sport, and failing to make weight is never forgivable. Guzman was crucified on these forums as was Castillo and Corrales. It's Nate's turn.
Secondly, the reason I was "upset" with Castillo is that he missed weight three fights in a row and still continued to campaign in a weight class he had no business in. That's why I was upset.
I was "upset" in the sense that I felt it was unprofessional, but there are rules and stipulations and even in these instances they are carried out. Campbell was stripped of his belts and undoubtedly had to fork over a portion of his purse to Funeka. The belts will only be on the line for Funeka.
If Funeka didn't want to go through with the fight, he didn't have to. But thankfully for the fans sake, the fight will go through.Comment

the titles aren't on the line and Nate says he's moving up to 140, so this fight is completely and utterly pointless to anyone not named Nate Campbell. just like Corrales-Casamayor III, but at least that fight had two top level fighters.
and I don't think you deserve a full paycheck if you don't make weight.
However, Campbell cannot regain the titles if he wins.Comment

I'm taping the fights and hopefully catching them tomorrow. If I read that Campbell destroys Funeka, it will just confirm what I've been saying about an unfair advantage. If Campbell loses, he's going to be ridiculed for losing to a guy that he outweighed significantly on weigh in day. I'll certainly follow the story, and, if I'm going to be discussing the situation, then, yes, I'll need to watch the fight. So I guess it depends how it falls out.Comment

I don't like Guzman and actually used to like Campbell.
Maybe you're fairly new to boxing, but 3 pounds is the world on weigh in day.
Castillo couldn't drop Corrales until 10 rounds were through in their first fight but dominated and KO'd him in 4 in the rematch and that was about 3.5 pounds if I remember correctly. So yes it is a HUGE advantage.Comment

Look man, enjoy boxing while you still can. Sports should be relaxing to watch, leisure, not something to burst a blood vessel in your head about.Comment

from some of these responses, I'm guessing a lot of you are new to boxing and don't understand that half the battle is making weight for the day before the fight. if you do it in a healthy way, you're good. if you don't try to make the weight, you have a HUGE advantage going into the ring because your body has not been punished.
the point is we have no way of knowing if a guy that fails to make weight really ever tried to make weight or not. I tend to think Nate did since he was the champion and all, but there is absolutely no way of knowing just like we don't know if Margarito used his illegal handwraps every fight before the Mosley fight.
the only way to be safe in this sport is to make weight and not load your gloves. don't bring any unfair advantages into the ring or people can criticize you and question you all they want.Comment

are you actually mocking me for reading f.ightnews and other sites to know what happened? if people aren't reading about these stories, then how does boxing even survive?Comment
