I'm sick of all this Paul Williams hype

If Paul Williams loses on April 11 there won't be too much hype around him. If he wins on April 11 the hype will only continue to grow and it'll be much more justified. He beat the brick throwing Margarito and will have beaten Winky in addition to solid wins against Quintana and Phillips. So, if you hate the hype now you better hope he loses on April 11.Comment

We are clearly not talking about the same thing. It's not even worth my time anymore. Have a nice day.Comment

I was discussing this in hypejob thread and I'd like to expand on it further, so I wanted to give it it's own thread.
Let's look at Paul's last 5 fights, shall we?...........
Verno Phillips - Solid fighter, but nothing more than that. Phillips had 10 losses when Paul climbed into the ring with him, was 39 years old, and his best win was a close split decision over Cory Spinks. Williams TKO's him in 8. Who didn't see it coming?
Andy Kolle - The definition of a tin can. Had a 17-1 record against less than stellar opposition, and his best win was who? Matt Vanda? Williams TKO's him in 1. It was to be expected.
Carlos Quintana - Solid former World Champion, not long ago he was favored to be Cotto when they fought. Had a 25-1 record at the time of their rematch, his best win was an unexpected UD schooling of hot young prospect Joel Julio. Williams TKO's him in 1, not what we expected at all.
Carlos Quintana - See above. Only this time, Quintana kicks Williams goofy looking ass around the ring for the full 12 rounds and takes his title. Williams loses a pretty wide UD. (I scored it 116-112)
Antonio Margarito - Not exactly the world beater he was hyped up to be, eh? Was 34-4 when he met Williams, pre-Cotto, and pre-handwrap controversy. Williams wins a clearcut UD and takes Tony's title.
Now who did he fight before them? Santos Pakkau? Walter Matthysse? The blown up corpse of Shamba Mitchell?
And who is Paul fighting next? The bloated corpse of Winky Wright, a guy who Hopkins walked through in 2007. A guy who hasn't had a fight in almost 2 years by the time April rolls around.
Is this the record of a man who, according to Max Kellerman (and many fans here) "has two weight divisions paralyzed with fear"?
I certainly don't think so.Comment
