Not to mention, Barak ***** is as much which as he is black. Having pride in him because he's black makes about as much sense as me saying, "I'm an ***** supporter because he's white!" Now don't I sound like an idiot? Something Jay Z needs to uderstand is that Barak being elected President was not a victory because he is half-black... its a victory because he is ALL-good.... and its a victory because day by day... race matters less and less... God I can't wait for the day when race is NEVER mentioned again.
Racial pride in Boxing good or bad?

My point would be: how come the human race has gotten itself to the point where black people are proud of *****? This line of thinking merely exists because of white racists who caused black people to think this way. If it wasn't for racial pride in the first place, you wouldn't feel proud simply because black people have a black president. You wouldn't feel anything, because color would never be an issue. You should be proud of your president if he is a good leader who can do good for your country, not merely because he is black. Personally, I'd feel proud if he turns out to be a good president who can heal the countries wounds, I wouldn't care if he came from mars and had purple skin as long as he does good.
I hope I'm making make sense here.
i agree wit what you're saying, but in terms of BOXING, i feel racial pride is okay. boxing is entertainment, so there's always gonna be ppl who root for a fighter for different reasons.......personally, i'd never root for a guy "b/c he's black" i root for fighters based on their skill level.
i will say, i went to watch cotto-margarito at this bar, and the atmosphere was UNBELIEVABLE.....u had mexicans supporting and cheering margarito, u had PR's doing the same for cotto, and it was cool.
it was cool, because nobody was talking **** about the other's nationality, everybody was just there cheering on their fighter....no violence, no confrontations.......that's why i feel racial pride is okay in boxing, but had some **** popped off at the bar b/c "somebody was mexican, or b/c somebody was PR" i would've felt like "these mu****as takin it too far now."
i'm just a person who feels ppl should be free to live their life and do what they want.....AS LONG AS THEY AIN'T HURTIN' NOBODY.Comment

Ethnic pride is OK. The problem is racists use it as an excuse to act ignorant.
From my own personal experience, being Mexican-American and growing up in the US my whole life, yeah, I've heard people talk trash about Mexicans and have even been "racismed" against when I was growing up a few times. It's obvious there's a couple posters here who hate based purely on race.
So for me, I take pride in a Mexican fighter winning a tough fight because I feel like Mexicans get ****ted on so much, that it feels good to see a hard-won victory. By the same token, when someone like Margarito gets involved in a very bad scandal, it does make me feel bad in a way... and I had nothing to do with it! It's because it gives the racists an excuse to talk even more ****.
But I agree with people who say they like boxers of all nationalities. I think casual fans are the ones who are more likely to root for somebody of their own race.
It's kind of weird, when I was really young I, of course, knew about JCC. But I always thought that Tommy Hearns and Marvin Hagler were way cooler. But then when I got older I would sometimes find myself rooting for DLH mainly because he was Mexican-American. It's strange because it's so easy to tell Oscar is kind of a herb (sorry). But I'm being dead honest.
Nowadays, I'm more and more into boxing. I'm a fan of Pac Man and Vic D. even if people want to talk about how they're Mexicutioners. I'm old enough to see that's mostly the public talking trash.Comment

believe me, there were more white ppl touched by his election than black people.
the difference in saying "i'm happy ***** is BLACK" and "i'm happy ***** is white" is historical......ALL presidents have been WHITE, so for someone to say, i'm happy ***** is white.......you get the picture.
being proud he is "black" isn't just that. its the fact there has never been a BLACK president before in America, a country that's built on racism....
***** being half black, doesn't provide hope for just black ppl man, but everybody like u and me, who want a day when race doesn't matter. his election shows that at least america is headed in the right direction, b/c we can elect a man b/c we think he's better for the job, and NOT let race be the deciding factor.Comment

right. but *****'s election is evidence that "race matters less and less."

You and I are on the same page man... I'm just saying, Barak is not black... at best he's milk chocolate LOL... but he is a good man. It would have been just as meaningful... if not MORE meaningful, if a woman would have been elected. I was only saying that if Barak ***** was ALL white... and still stood for everything that he does at this moment, it wouldn't have been any less of a victory. If we were as black as a moonless night on the ocean floor... it wouldn't be any more of a victory. I'm a white guy, with a Mexican girlfriend, and I hope we have a black baby someday (though I don't know how we'll work that out)... because I've just met so many people of every different color that I admire. It's to the point where I eventually had to quit noticing color all together because there are no stereotypes... there are no molds, so why even pay attention to color.Comment
