i don't see anything wrong with being proud of people of your own race. just as long as you're not bashing other fighters because of theirs. don't mix up racism and being proud of your own race. i'm mexican american and am very peoud of my people, but i still root for fighters of diffrent races.

Proud, is something someone shouldn't be of something they didn't accomplish. What di dyou have to achieve in order to be Mexican American?

You can be happy, but RPIDE should be kept for things that you have to achieve/accomplish.

just so ppl no where i stand while i dont support a boxer based on race i do often like the aside from ability i often go on there attitude, i dont like the boasters who have done nolt like khan, or the mayweathers but i do love to hate them because it makes it all the more entertaining, so when hopkins said ill never lose to a white guy while it got my back up i realise that is just hopkins for you and it did make it more intresting, you know.

couldnt give a **** i like boxers of all race and nationality, if i dont like a boxer it will tend to be because of his fans being ass holes. Not all but some filipino people are gettin annoying about Pac and I love the guy but you are gonna turn me against him!

accomplish something?, i think we're talking about 2 diffrent things. i'm not taking credit because a fighter is mexican and wins, that's the fighters glory. i take pride because as a people i'm proud to be what i was born. being proud and having some pride in your people reguardless the sport is a good thing. as a human being you should be proud of what is accomplished by all people.

Any kind of of racial pride is dumb as ****. It causes major problems. Let's go right back to 1910. Jack Johnson vs. Jim Jeffries. When Jack beat Jeffries it triggered race riots all over the USA. People were getting their throats cut in the street because a black man won. This is back in the day when blacks were not even allowed to compete for the heavyweight championship. Johnson, of course, was the first to hold it.

Jeffries: "I am going into this fight for the sole purpose of proving that a white man is better than a Negro." Crowds during the fight chanted "Kill the ni**er".

Fast forward to Hagler-Minter. Hagler won, and Minter fans in England threw bottles at Hagler while he was still in the ring. He had to be escorted by police out of Wembley stadium.

Fast forward again to Calzaghe-Hopkins. We all know what happened there. Bernard's comments about never letting a white boy beat him lost him a lot of fans and Calzaghe himself thinks Hopkins is racist. I don't believe Hopkins is particularly racist, and he could have been saying it to ceate interest in the fight. However, in my opinion it was pretty classless and unnecessary. Yeah, I'm a Hopkins fan, but that was low and I found it hard to support him at the time.

There have been plenty of other examples of racism in boxing, and in my opinion it's disgraceful. Racism / racial pride? It's the same damn thing.

Competitiveness is a part of nature and should be encouraged. It seperates the weak from the stong. It can be tolerated on a national level because the demographic is much wider ie; France, America, Mexico, England, Canada, and so on. However on a racial level, it only encourages prejudice, discrimination, and hatred. The demographic is too small ie; black, white, and asian. This fosters self interest rather than healthy competition, and eventually will lead to racism.

you're talking about straight racism. pride and being proud in the right way is good. but i ain't gonna jump on some fighters bandwagon, just cause he/she is the same race as myself. nor would i take credit for a fighters success soley because of same race.
