Every "champion" at 168 is a paper champ right now.

IMO whoever wins Froch/Taylor will have earned their title in the ring.

No offense meant to Froch fans, but my opinion that he is currently a paper champ has more to do with my opinion of Pascal than it does with Froch.

Also the fact that Taylor and Froch are both coming off wins over fighters who were ranked in the top 10 at 168 at the time they beat them. So you have two top ranked fighters who have just beaten fellow top 10 opponents squaring off to prove who's best... I think it's fair to call that a real championship. Or about as close to real as you can get when the belts have been vacated.

Better than having two guys compete for a title after coming off wins over Pittman and Rybacki.

I personally think that a paper champion is a fighter who didn't win their title against a legitimate opponent, and Pascal was definitely legit and skills and ratings at the time speaks for itself. For example, Andre Berto was a paper champion when he beat Mikki Rodriquez because Rodriquez was not even a top 10 fighter and had lost to Boldimir so he definitely wasn't legit.

I don't think Pascal was rated in the top 10 either. He was coming off a bad performance against Omar Pittman.

Pascal was ranked #3 by the WBC which is why he was next in line for the title shot after Taylor (who was #2) signed on for Lacy.

Still doesn't make him legitimate in my eyes, though, considering he's never beaten a top 20 fighter.

Depends on which organization is doing the ratings. I remember watching Pascal vs Pittman was they showed the ratings and at the time, Miranda was 8 or 9 and Pascal was 10. They were doing the build between a fight between them. Pascal had beaten some good fighters and done enough to be ranked up there, especially if Miranda and Taylor( who hadn't fought at 168 at the time) did.
