I love the logic that Calzaghe ducked "prime" legends but when he tried to get the fights with them he's labeled as a "nobody." Yet when Calzaghe had the clout to make big fights with "legends" they happen fairly easily (Kessler, Hopkins, Jones), except for Taylor who was clearly avoiding Joe as did a prime Ottke...To be fair, how many of today's fighters can you count who have beaten a prime legend. I'm interested to know.
Jones should have fought him in 2000 when the offer was there. And Hopkins in 2002. Such a shame these fights didn't come off.

Joe Calzaghe wanted fights with Jones, Toney and Hopkins 10 years ago but none of them had any intent of taking that risk and Joe fighting in America wouldn't have changed that IMO.Comment

From what I heard warren made Roy Jones some offer to come and fight in wales or england, knowing roy jones said he would never fight abroad again after the olympics. Now that could be wrong, but hey who cares, calzaghe would have lost to a prime roy jones anyhere, anytime anyplace.
See how old Hopkins had Calzaghe down, a prime James toney would hurt him for real, that pitty pat **** aint gonna work on toney, who was far more skilled and had disgraceful power at those weights.
Ricky Hatton, Floyd Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya, Vernon Forrest are just a few names off the top of my head who all got in the ring with legends in their prime.
All im saying is, Calzaghe is world class, but the facts are, he really isnt missed that much in the sport it seems. When guys like mayweather retire its a different story, because he takes part in megafights, same with de la hoya, pac, hatton, etc.
Calzaghe was never involved in a megafight I remember (I think the hopkins fight did cack numbers and i doubt it was even PPV) and doesnt seem interested in fighting prime world class opponents at the moment, so alot of people dont really care anymore.
I for one wanna see him against Dawson and right now, thats probably the ONLY fight I wanna see him take, no pavlik, No woods, no hopkins, someone Prime. Dawson has a legitmate shot at an upset.Comment
