Who did budge Hagler though? Hearns managed to back him up half a step with one of this bombs and he was one of the biggest P4P punchers of all-time! Marvin was the definition of "granite" chin. Actually, it was more like adamantium I think!Joe wouldn't of budged Hagler even, when he could apparently punch hard. Hagler not only took Hearns best shots, he also fought guys like Sibson,Obell,Roldan that were much bigger than him and they could all crack, and none of them could hurt Hagler.
Hell Sibbo looked like godamn! CW let alone a MW.
Hagler ducked no-one.Hagler ducked Herol Graham.Comment

Dont think anyone really budged Hagler.I watched the Hagler-Mugabi fight recently and he got hit an awful lot in that one,and mugabi was another murderous puncher.Hagler was one Hard bastard!Who did budge Hagler though? Yeah I know. Everyone talks about the Hearns fight, but the Mugabi one showed his chin far more! Mugabi was a very dangerous puncher and Hagler walked through everything. I don't recall Hagler even backing up half a step!
The man was a machine.Comment

John Mugabi used to knock down Heavyweights in sparring so i heard, the uppercut he hit Marvin Hagler with, and the right hand Thomas Hearns hit him with in the opening bell. Are some of the best punches i've ever seen landed without a fighter going down.Comment

The mugabi fight was probably the only time I saw hagler lumped up,but he still ruined mugabi and he was never the same after thatComment

I love watching Hagler. A complete fighter. Watch some of his fights in the late 70s, he was amazing. He'd box for half the round, then start brawling. And then become a pressure fighter for the next few rounds. He's most definately one of the most balanced, all-round fighters of AT.
I mean if you consider Foreman: take away his power and he suddenly looks very ordinary. Take away RJJ/Whitaker's reflexes and they are suddenly far more beatable. Hagler was a complete fighter. Even if you take away his iron chin, he's still an elite fighter (he's not Margarito!). What I mean is he's not a fighter who relies on his natural talents. He had so much about him: power, speed (he was no slouch), head movment, footwork, very, very underrated defense.Comment

Calzaghe could also fight well on the inside, he was very good at avoiding punches while getting his own in. He didn't punch with great power, but the cumulative effect of a very large number of punches was more debilitating than a lot of people give him credit for. Also, he did punch hard to the body, he tended not to punch hard to the head in order to protect his hands - he almost knocked Kessler out with a single body punch. And he confused fighters by firing off fast combinations consisting of maybe 5 soft punches and then a much harder one, which they wouldn't see coming. He probably wouldn't have hurt Hagler, but I think he might well have outboxed him over the 12 rounds, although he'd have been outboxed by Hagler at times.Joe wouldn't of budged Hagler even, when he could apparently punch hard. Hagler not only took Hearns best shots, he also fought guys like Sibson,Obell,Roldan that were much bigger than him and they could all crack, and none of them could hurt Hagler.

Yea i've watched quite alot of the early version of Marvin Hagler, i was very impressed with his boxing skills in his fights against Bennie Briscoe, Vito Antuofermo 1, his footwork/counter punching. Mixed in with a bit of brawling was masterful to watch, he is the complete package like Mike McCallum, Ricardo Lopez, ETC.I love watching Hagler. A complete fighter.
