I could explain to you why it doesn't work, but you wouldn't understand.
I am old enough to have taken up boxing and quit it too, I don't need you to explain me anything.

What YOU need to do is actually read my post, where you would have seen what I have to say on your simplistic equation, when applied to fighters like Toney and Mayweather (as backed up by facts, since the fights you mentioned ended up with the lefties getting hurt), who can do a lot more than fighting from the 'philly shell', which is actually not called the 'philly shell' unless you have taken up boxing in videogames...

Mel had too much for him. Too much speed, too much stamina, too much heart and too many punches. Buddy landed some nice shots throughout, but every time he did something Mel an answer (or several answers in Taylors case).

Buddy probably could have made the final bell though. Strangely enough the ending of that fight was a bit like Hatton/Malignaggi.

Actually, yes it is called the philly shell... Shoulder roll refers specifically to defense for right hands.

              Lets talk about facts.

3min11sec exactly why the shoulder roll doesn't work against southpaws.

I think that performance had more to do with Buddy having an off night. He was completely gassed by the 2nd round.

I don't think that's a fair assessment that it won't work on southpaws as a whole. Floyd did it right in front of Zab. It works best for Floyd when he's on the ropes. Not when standing right in front off opponents...especially Zab who has fast hands.

It works anywhere in the ring. It works nowhere in the ring against southpaws and 3:11 that video is why.

Instinctively you will try and roll the right hand which against southpaws is a jab, and in the process, you create a nice little opening for a straight left hand to find you right on the chin.

You have to realize that the straight left come in from the left side, its not going to deflect off the back of your shoulder, its going to deflect right down the middle into your chin. There is nothing you can do about it other than not fighting out of philly shell against southpaws.
