Then you obviously never EVER watched Pea in his prime. Case closed.

Look, I LOVE Floyd. Way more than Pea. WAY more...from the first time I saw him bust up Louie Leija on the Morales-Zaragoza undercard. But he ain't better than no Pernell Whitaker.

I hear people talk about what an underrated inside fighter Floyd is. They're RIGHT. He beat Castillo up on the inside and that gets overlooked. But Pea was better there...I'm surprised people are arguing this!! Ricky Hatton?? Come on, try Azumah Nelson! Julio Cesar Chavez.

I don't think Pea blows Floyd away - nobody does. But he wins. Convincing.

        • This debate never goes anywhere.

It's not a match-up that you can easily analyze (as in, "Floyd has more power and speed so he would win") nor can you say that either fighter would dominate the other ("Whitaker easily win", "Mayweather would easily win"), both are masters of their craft.
I believe it would be a highly technical contest that would most likely go down to the judges more so than the fighters.

Whitaker simply proved his worth against better opponents and also had an unorthodox southpaw style which is admittedly Mayweather's weakness. That's why I would favour him.

Mayweather had to get on his bike against Castillo in the second fight and against Jesus Chavez, because they would not allow him to stay in the pocket.

Mayweather beat J L Castillo decisively the second time, because he did not try to stay in the pocket the way he did in the first fight, because when he was in pocket Castillo was landing right hands on him etc. You watch the second fight all Floyd did was counter and move counter and move, because Castillo would not allow him to fight in the pocket.

Against Jesus Chavez he was confused as to whether to go on the outside or stay inside, because Chavez was throwing that many punches he was making it impossible for him to fight in the pocket. Floyd went on his bike again and only took control when Chavez started to tire.

You know this is the truth and this is why Whitaker is a better inside fighter.

Yea there is no clear answer. Some will favor Mayweather. Some'll choose Whitaker. But I think every1 can agree neither guy dominates the other.

The problem is that people don't.

Not so much in this thread (although there have been some cases already) but in the numerous previous threads about the same subject where Mayweather fans would not accept that Whitaker could come even close to beating Floyd.

Thankfully the Mayweather fandom has quietened down since his retirement but it was pretty bad a while back.
