I know Berto has fought even as large as Middleweight but I think he could eliminate some of his muscle and still be a very strong light welterweight and probably a bit faster. I don't think he has too bright a futrue at WW. What does everyone think? Poll to follow..
I agree with the below staement by Reed. He came in at 160 on fight night. If he had to go down to 140 it wouldnt be good for him. If he could get down there and keep his health then maybe. For all due relative discussion lets state the obvious he is at 147 and this is where he needs to be. So my answer is no and for the reasons tha Reed stated. As for him being an elite Welter Weight well I am still on the fence. he showed me something the other nioght and I like what he said after the fight in regards to a rematcha nd the young fighters getting it on.....Lefty

I agree he cannot hang with those guys yet... but he still has a lot of work to do, and I have the utmost confidence that he will only get better...

The fact that he balloons up that high, I don't think draining to 140 would be good, and cutting muscle has never been a good thing either for an athlete...

My suggestion? Floyd or Roger Mayweather.

I realize he came in the ring at 160 and has even fought at 160 but the reason is becuase he is carrying all the extra muscle. That is the point of the argument. Like I said before, Berto and his team are the only ones who know if he can make a lower weight, but the fact that he comes in at 160 doesn't mean anything as my point is he is beginning the situation with too much weight. If he had 7 lbs less weight making lightwelter then he'd blow up 7 less lbs on fight night. The debate is a bit silly since no one knows what Berto is definitely capable of but.. Just from looking at him, it seemed to me he had room to cut weight. I'm sure he'll stay at 147 though for many reasons.

Not starting **** AT ALL... but have you ever cut weight before.. LIKE THAT?

If that dude is making 147, and the very next day hes 160.... it means making 140 would damn near kill him... and cutting muscle is not only difficult but can have drastic effects...

IMO, it would be too dangerous to ATTEMPT 140, then to just stay at 147 and work on his skills.

I think he built a lot of his endurance back after playing Huggy Bear in the early rounds. I hope Berto isn't smoking butts..

                    from Dre himself:

"El_Jefe: Thanks for taking this time just before your fight to be here Andre.

I was curious due to your muscular frame, do you have any difficulty making 147? If so, how do you think you would fare at 154?
Andre_Berto: nah not at all last fight against Forbes I came in at 145 and only gained a few pounds after the fact but I do believe I can fight at 154 because in the amateurs I fought between 152 and 156 so it's not a weight I am unfamiliar with.

                    ok?

Ok. and I realize I am selling my Berto Welterweight stock a bit prematurely but.. Who is Berto's next "big" win going to come against, in how many fights from now, and what changes in him do you honestly expect to see between now and that fight?
