Anyone think Berto would be more effective at 140? Poll!

It looks like Berto is carrying a lot of extra muscle that is really only causing him endurance issues IMO. Also, because of his height I think he will always be at a major disadvantage against the larger welterweights. I know Berto has fought even as large as Middleweight but I think he could eliminate some of his muscle and still be a very strong light welterweight and probably a bit faster. I don't think he has too bright a futrue at WW. What does everyone think? Poll to follow..
    59
    He's best at Welterweight.
    35.59%
    21
    He's best at Light Welterweight.
    38.98%
    23
He's limited and won't remain elite at either.

It depends... it could also be a bad thing... you dont know how he would react to draining down that low... being he started at middleweight... and still balloons up to 160 after the weigh-in... for his size you would think he would do better at 140... but im going to say, 7 more pounds... would seem to be too much and effect him very negatively... just an opinion though.

Berto is jacked. If he cut a little of that muscle I think he could easily cut a lot of weight. I know he started at middle but.. That could very likely have just been a horrible idea. I really think he may have peaked for this division. If Collazo slowed and hurt him with his power.. Imagine what Margarito, Cotto, Cintron, P-Will, or Clottey could do.. not to mention the fact that some of those guys would be equipped with a major height advantage. I think if his future has a ceiling it would be best for him to look elsewhere.

if he could get down comfortably, then i reckon he would, simply because of the lower standard of opposition there

Lets not get ahead of ourselves... hes 24 years old and has only had 24 pro fights... No way has he peaked... lets also not forget, he was fighting the slickest southpaw at welterweight... It's not easy to fight someone like that, and Collazo is unbelievably underrated... I agree he cannot hang with those guys yet... but he still has a lot of work to do, and I have the utmost confidence that he will only get better...

The fact that he balloons up that high, I don't think draining to 140 would be good, and cutting muscle has never been a good thing either for an athlete...

My suggestion? Floyd or Roger Mayweather.

Berto isn't very slick, and the top of that division is large. I think his only chance at being top dog is finding a new division. And Cutting muscle is not neccessarily a bad thing. More muscle is not always better.

I'm not saying he's peaked but i am saying he has physical limitations against a division that is filled with middle and junior middleweights who have learned that they can make weight and abuse smaller fighters.

I think Margarito, and Williams would cause serious size problems for him... but the likes of Cotto, Mosley, Clottey.... I think he can develop into competing with those fighters...

I seriously think the slick southpaw style gave him a lot of problems, and he had to try to adapt... what IS important, is that he COULD adapt... now im not getting into who won or lost, but he did find a way to adapt, and start landing his punches.. and he also showed tremendous heart.

Adaptability and heart are two things you cant exactly teach a fighter... the rest of the skills are very teachable.. and for a 24 year old athlete, I would have the utmost confidence that he will.

A lot of muscle isnt necessarily a good thing.. but cutting muscle, isnt always good... you never know how a body responds to that... I think the frame of his body would make it difficult to dip into 140.

What do you think should be Berto's next 2 fights? he's in an interesting place right now where he's firmly ahead of the bottom of the division but clearly unprepared for the top. He may need to convince Judah to try WW again..
