A succesfull ppv is just the cherry on top if the fight was actually a good fight. Some people prefer good ppv numbers over a good fight though. Now i wish every single ppv event (given its a ppv worthy matchup) does 1mil+ every time, but im not gonna support a b.s ppv matchup, hoping it does great numbers. Why would ANYONE do that? In boxing, its about providing entertainment for the fans, and in return, the fans will pay to watch the performance.
Boxing PPV Numbers: As A Fan, Who Really Cares?

In my opinion, yeah... Pay Per View buy rates is what's helping keep boxing alive, without PPV buy rates the sport probably wouldn't be what it is today.Comment

I agree with that, but knowing the numbers helps make you understand why certain fights won't likely be made.Comment

Yeah, we can understand it, but it doesnt mean that we have to accept it. As long as certain fans continue to purchase any bull***** ppv they throw at us, what's to stop them? A boycott of these bull***** fights is what will stop these nonsense ppv's from taking place.Comment

Nonono... you have got me wrong, either way I absolutely love the sport and probably couldn't live without it... but I just meant that without PPV, boxing wouldn't have generated the money it has today... meaning with more money more publicity if that makes sense?
Either way... I love Boxing, If I see a great free fight I will be happy, and the same to a great PPV fight.Comment

It's rare I find myself talking of the positives of PPV's but then perhaps people do need to understand them better to appreciate why there there.
Frankly, it's a little naive to simply say I don't care if they earn much or not. Everythings a business to some degree, and no sane man wishes a business declining profits. In all industries that has negative effects, and sport, boxing is of course one too.
If PPV profits seriously declined boxing would suffer because less money for venues, promoting, travelling, different shows, sanctioning fees, particular match ups would suffer.
Now, saying a lot of PPV revenue could be better spent, promoters and networks could put up with less profits is another thing and perhaps true in some cases, but this isn't an ideal world and profits are difficult to limit.
At the end of the day, PPV's pump money into this sport we love, and that's what helps tick it over and grow it economically in many ways.
I could also easily be convinced and partially am, that there's too many PPV's and more profits could come from other methods and grow the sport as well however.
But the tone of a lot of posts is I don't care at all what anyone in boxing earns, and that's naive and would be negative for boxing on the front line.Comment
