I understand where you're coming from, but also keep in mind not EVERY fight is going to make De La Hoya money...it's just a reality. The average Boxing PPV does anywhere from 300k-600k on average (which is about what fights have been making for the past few years anyway besides the mega fights)It matters because it matters to the sport. It also, for better or worse, dictates big fights. Whether you like to believe it or not, it does.
If someones fights do bad on PPV than the big stars aren't really going to be enticed to fight them. Therefore, it matters. Plus, big numbers are good for the sport, so as a fan of the sport you gotta care.
The problem I have is people paying attention to the PPV buy rates as if they're the ones promoting the fight and overlooking what you're actually a fan of (THE FIGHT ITSELF).
I seriously doubt Boxing is in that deep of a recession that we won't be able to see the fights we want (which ultimately is up to the promoters anyway to make).Comment

Its like when fans of one fighter say that their fighter should NOT fight this fighter, because fighter B doesnt bring in enough ppv revenue. What the *** should they care??? LOL. If im not seeing a cent from the ppv revenue, why on earth would i care how much money my favorite fighters opponent brings in? My only concern is that its a good competitive matchup.Comment

All that needs to be said. Another thingOf course it matters. I'm the first to point out I dislike money ruling things too much at times, especially in sport. Football and Boxing are some of the worst in many ways. But we need money coming into this sport to keep it healthy, well televised, the athletes paid well, working hard and incentivised, getting what they deserve, networks being able to take on more fights as it's financially sound.
If earnings go down so do the number and quality of fights very often, as networks, promoters and all sorts have to be even more tight, businss savy and conservative.
When guys are fairly big draws it draws in terms of PPV it's a good sign also people are being brought into the sport, networks jump at the fight where they otherwise mightn't. Without those none of those things are so true, this a bleaker situation for boxing.
I do think the US pays to much for their PPV's though in comparison with the rest of the world, and this is partially why less people are watching over all. But it's a balance to be worked on over time.
Because you care about the PPV's don't mean you go against the actaul fight...That is DUMBComment

I enjoy knowing the numbers because I like to see that thousands are buying the fight, and knowing boxing is still buy-able, and popular. That's the main reason I enjoy knowing it, or knowing that the fighters I enjoy watching are also becoming popular.Unless you're a promoter, should you care if a PPV fight made so many figures? The reason I bring this up is because I've noticed some people here who hate on certain fighters and hilariously go out of their way to bring out the PPV numbers from their previous fights thus trying to prove a fight was NOT successful.
But as a fan, what is more successful in your eyes...getting your money's worth by watching a great fight or looking at the PPV buy rates a month later as if you're the promoter's accountant?

Cause i happen to be one of them..A hardcore fan watches no matter how successful right??
