Ugh... reading that post makes me sound like a prick, but seriously, you can't just put them in a bowl or something or they'll die.
It reallly sucks looking after them, and don't get me wrong, I'm locked into this so it's my thing, but if you ever encounter some guy on the street selling baby turtles and think it might be fun to have one or two, just don't.
It's not that easy. If I knew a safe way to release these bastards into the wild, I would. But that's just not possible in Beijing.
If there's anyone out there that is really, really bored and likes to fret and obsess over things, turtles might be your thing. You could like constantly change the water, check the PH level and temperature, re-arrange their basking rocks and change the hight of the sun lamp, try to bond with them, etc.
They don't bite, they just claw.
Did I mention that turtles are actually harder to raise, properly, than dogs?
I'm dead serious.
Once you vaccinate a dog, all you need to do is feed, water and hopefully play with and love it. Take it out for as many walks as you can.
A turtle is a scientific experiment. If you don't look after them, they get sick, their eyes swell shut and their shells start getting damaged, they start getting flakes of skin coming off. It's not pretty. They won't eat.
Luckily my turtles are ok, but it's not been easy. I had to get outside help after my third turtle (a baby "given" to me by my work's ayi) got that eye sickness I mentioned.
That's it. Just hope this helps people to understand that turtles are not easy pets to look after properly.Comment

I might snap one day and murder them, but for now I take care of them with great resentment.
I only posted this to discourage expats from getting turtles as pets.

Marg get's torn to shreds by current Pac. Marg is not fast enough, has no foot work, and his chin has been officially cracked by Mosley.
