Dawson taking the Tarver rematch before he needed to might be an indication that Calzaghe has told Dawson's camp that he is not interested in fighting him. It seems to me that he won't fight again, but I hope he does.

Why would he? According to him, "Boxin's dead" so why would he fight in a dead sport?

        He should fight Hopkins again.

agreed, if he's gonna rematch anyone, why rematch Jones? Rematch the guy that made you look amateurish, not who you dominated.

If Dawson fought Hopkins and won convincingly I could see Joe coming back for that fight. I could also see Joe coming back and fighting whoever becomes unified at SMW and fighting him at a catch weight or even going back down to SMW.

The fight will have to be the biggest payday of his career for Joe to fight again IMO. Other then that I think JC is going to hang 'em up, he's done enough.

Yeah, before I saw Hopkins-Pavlik, I would have said different. But I think Hopkins will fight differently this time around.

Totally, I don't quite get why people don't see this so much. Dawson is busy with a re match making him busy for the first 8 months or so of 09 realistically. Calzaghe's unlikely to wait around for that. Plus, another win over Tarver is hardly the breakthrough Dawson needs. It won't do much for him, at least that he needs.

He won't re match Hopkins for the various reasons mostly known, no point.

He can't really get down to SMW, ruling out Pavlik, Abraham or any other top MW or small SMW, and I don't think even Taylor, Winky, Kessler or Froch would go high enough in catch weight, or that any of those would be particularly good match ups. Taylor couldn't despatch a Lacy Calzaghe ruined for him.

Another thing I'm surprised people haven't picked up on, is the Roy Jones interview quoting Joe saying he'd fight him if he did fight again. So furthermore, if we credit that aswell, it makes it even more unlikely.

There's been no significant talks of "Joes people are talking with ours" or anything like that, to take seriously. You'd expect a little of that in the past few weeks if Calzaghe was considering them, talking to them, or playing them off against each other for bargaining and such.

I really don't think the guys gona fight again, he's coming on for 37 and has ruined hands, there's no bigger fights out there.

Joe won the fight convincingly (threw and landed twice as many punches), it's just that Hopkins makes ugly, boring fights. Joe figured out Hopkins by mid fight and was dominating him and would do so in a rematch, but it would be dull to watch.
