Joe Calzaghe talks on fighting Prime Jones, fighting the best

Calzaghe versus prime Jones is ALL speculation. Jones looked phenomenal during his prime, but even at that time, he was never more than a 30-40 punch per round person. Not to mention, any person with access to boxrec.com (meaning the 3 billion people in this world with internet access) could make a case that "Jones avoided top competition during his prime" just as Calzaghe is accused of.
What I truly believe... and mind you that I am as AMERICAN as Abe Lincoln..., is that Calzage criticism has much more to do with him being born on the East side of the pond than it does his actual career. The U.S. has been the heart of the boxing world for so long (though that has changed a great deal over the last 4 or 5 years) that its difficult for fighters to get proper credit if we can't call them our own. I'd never ever want to live anywhere else other than the U.S. and if Joe were born here... I can almost promise you, he'd be the "Cat's Meow" in the message boards. To me, he is phenomenal... but the level of opposition faced is suprisingly similar between Jones and Calzaghe... Jones gets credit, Calzaghe gets scorned.Comment

its simple, Calzaghe never fought Jones or Hopkins in their prime because he wasn't in their league... The only time Calzaghe became a resonable opponent for Jones was after he had lost 3 of his last 5 fights and when Hopkins turned 43.
Back when they were both Joe's age... 35 or 36 whatever, they were both on top of their game Jones moving up to heavy beating Ruiz, Hopkins taking care of undefeated Trinidad while Joe was who and doing what ?
And djdn't Roy refuse to fight him due t him still being unknown??Comment

Yes.
Jones asked for an unrealistic much money, apparently. Figures that could never in a million years be paid. Same with Michalczewski (it was either 24 or 25 million).

exactly. and the article is misleading. warner was quoted saying joe calzaghe pulled out of a glen jonhson fight when glen was in his prime. never again to fight him. come on? who wouldn't want a prime white guy on hbo to take on jones and hopkins when they were in their primes, if he could do it? who does control the industry exactly? it's ridiculous the excuse of not getting a chance. i dont buy it.
Glen Johnson absolutely ****** in the same 168 division that was "weak" when Calzaghe was top dog.Comment
