Is Marciano the best heavyweight because he never lost? On paper he has beat joe Louis, Wallcott, Charles and Moore...and he's undefeated 49-0.

When you break it down, most people don't give him a chance against any top heavyweight even with a 10+ losses on their records (Holyfield)

staying in a weak division in Europe fighting nobodies and fighters past their best won't make you the best boxer of this generation, maybe the "longest belt holder" or something.
Good post Them apples...... I agree. However Calazghe didnt have 'THE MOST' bums on his resume. Guess who had more? Hmmm is it hard to guess. Duran. At lightweight duran's entire resume is a whose' who of bums. I even have people on here on other threads trying to hype of fighters like Kyobashi, (61-9-4) not bad, and yes great compared the HORRIBLE FIGHTER THAT WHERE ALL OVER DURANS RESUME @ lightweight. Duran did move up and fight great great fighters, but he lost 5 out of 6 of these...

So IMO Duran, Chavez get the nod

I'm not denying there are one or two standout moments in his career but for the most part, he fought stiffs.

What more do you want him to accomplish?
in those eleven years he fought three or four quality fighters which is pathetic...

Frank Warren should shoulder alot of the blame also. Calzaghe came over and fought in America twice and even if he didn't do that his legacy should not be diminished. Joe can make enough money fighting in Cardif but he chose to fight in the US. Hopkins was ranked number one in the Light Heavyweight division. Kessler was Ranked number two in the SMW division and Lacy was highly ranked also. Give him some credit.
and it may be so that he didnt get the best fights he could due to politics or whatever but it still doesnt change the fact that he beat a bunch of journeymen..

Alot of his wins are against decent fighters but comparing zaghe's resume to other great fighters resume makes himself look like a journeyman

Come on now, it is CLEARLY a disrespectful word and generally used by writers, reporters, critics, etc who never fought a day in their lives...if they knew what it took to actually climb through those ropes they would definitely find a different word to use. It became common as time went on because the only people who used it were ones who used it among themselves...talking to each other, dissing fighters who make it possible for them to even have a job in the first place...bum is the wrong word...people see a guy with a terrible record and incorrectly label him...it's a word that has become accepted and common by certain people, so often used, but it is still the wrong word...there are many, many reasons why guys lose more fights than others and they definitely are not all because he cannot fight...there are pro fighters out there with terrible looking records who, if you saw them fight and ddint know their records, you wouldnt guess it...other guys come to fight, try hard and lose, period...totally unjust to call them bums...I am always aware of a few things: 1 is that just because a guy isn't famous, undefeated or has a great record it doesnt mean he can't fight...I also know that there are guys out there who fight for reasons other than to make millions and become famous/a champion...they dont get opportunities and they dont have the proper backing, etc...but they have talent, skills, power etc etc that world champs would envy. Guys who if you ever saw them in a gym somewhere sparring with a world champion you wouldnt be able to know for sure by watching who the better fighter was.

ANYONE who trains for a fight, waits in that dressing room and then walks out to go to battle, especially against someone who he knows his chances of beating are slim at best, is still doing something 99.99999999 percent of the population has ever done and something 89.9999 percent of the population would even have the courage to attempt

              Amen brother.
And another thing, SOME so called "bums" are very entertaining to watch as well.
I hate the word so much.

It's gotta be Julio Chavez Sr. Even in his prime he fought guys with 0 experiences as in big 0 now his son is doing the exact same thing.

well, in regard to Chavez Sr., he came up at a time when they didnt have federal ID's for pro fighters etc...if you look at boxrec they show many of his opponents as having zero fights but that is not accurate, boxrec is a great tool BUT it is very flawed..many of the records are inaccurate/incomplete...I fought a guy who was 16-0, FOR EXAMPLE, and for the longest time they listed him at 6-0...I know another guy who has his record mixed in with another fighter with the same name as him....Chavez and a million other guys didn't fight so many guys with 0-0 records, its just that the website is incomplete

Alltime I say Julio Cesar Chavez with like 40 nobodies, possibly more. Right I think is Chris John.
