Without going into a long drawn out ramble, why did Mayweather retire when there are still plenty of fighters to fight?

I mean, wouldn't you want to build your legacy? Mayweather's only 31. He still has maybe a few tough fights left in him.

Why didn't he fight Cotto? Why didn't he fight Margarito? Why didn't he fight Clottey? Why didn't he fight Williams? Why didn't he fight Mosely?

maybe he felt tired of boxing or that he wasn't in his physical prime anymore

maybe he was all about the fame and money all along and legacy doesn't mean so much to him

maybe he felt he'd achieved all he could at the time

only Mayweather knows. but he chose to retire, in my opinion, without the intention of ducking anyone... i don't believe he thinks any of those guys can beat him

I tend to think by the time Floyd moved up to 147 in his chase to get to Oscar; he was leaning towards cashing out.

I always favor fighters getting out on top or just when they are sliding a bit from their Prime. This way, they still have hopefully good health and they should be young enough to find something else that brings them enjoyment.
