You also see hagler who had not lost in 10 years...Lalond a young light heavy with not 12 fights but 33 fights... You also see Duran himself, who could not deal with Ray when Ray chose to fight his own style.

Even his weaker opposition..such as Price who beat both palimino and Cuevas who your ranting and raving about that Duran beat...

No you will not find a SRL win on his resume..but what you also will not find is any fights from the time 16th professional fight, that compares to 1/2 of the weak fighters Duran faced. Also you will find on both SRL and Mayweathers resume much better fighters that they beat and their top quallity wins much better.

Duran quit, fought bums, got kayoed, all before age 33. He did not fight arguello, sanchez, or Pryor at the lighter weights,,and he barely beat
SRL (total of 4 points between all 3 judges) when SRL WILLINGLY fought a fighter whe he chose to leave all his great boxing skills at home and just go toe to toe..However, when SRL decided to box, Duran was getting his ass handed to him, easily.

Fought hearns and went to sleep in two. Now i am not going to point out he ums like Lainge who beat him. What I will say is that fighters like Leonard, mayweather, Mosley, DLH, Jones..especially jones fought consistenly better fighters at heir natural weight moved and beat most if not all the good fighters they faced. Jones was pretty much undefeated til at 35, and he beat 2..I repeat future all time greats, in Toney and Hopkins, very easily. Jones moved all the way up to heavy wieght and beat Ruiz. Did not start losing until he destroyed his body with this rapid weight loss. He beat something lik 18 world champions and 24 or so champions.... But duran is ranked up here with that.

Do you see why I and Brandish simply are amazed at how weak your arguement is, and how biased and full of holes your arguement and anology is. What is happening is you all are allowing your love for a certain style and a person to cloud logical factual, and honest comparisons. Duran fought weak resume at lightweight, and moved up and outside of the SRL fight, he got destroyed once he moved up.

what a great factual analysis. it boggles the mind how he gets rated so high..I guess there is a lot of duran bias out there. and we can't totaslly dismiss bigotry behind the slamming of floyd mayweather, roy jones, and sugar ray leonard.

I think it is highly based on what your own criteria for determining an ATG is. When you approach triple digits in the number of pro fights you've fought, that in and of itself is a strong factor. If it is simply about winning and opposition faced. Duran is definitely in question as an ATG. However, even in his losses, he put on epic wars. Good thread and worth a lot of thought.

something i wrote in another thread explaining why duran is ranked so highly, and why hes ranked higher than tommy hearns:

(duran actually managed to beat leonard) while hearns' run up the weights was just as impressive as durans, durans longevity at championship level is a big up for him.....at 38 he won the middleweight title off barkely, who knocked hearns out


i think duran is ranked higher because:

1. he managed to beat leonard
2. he made his run up the weights when he was past his true prime, and still did very well
3. he was still fighting for world titles at 47 years old
4. he probably has a better resume than hearns, and he also beat the guy who KO'd hearns
5. he went the distance with hagler, who knocked tommy out
6. he was durable as hell, like was mentioned above, who is still fighting for major belts at 47??? i cant think of anyone at that age or around it besides big george and bhop...and the most incredible thing is duran wasnt like george who had a short career, and a long lay off, and he wasnt a defensive guy like b-hop who turned pro late and hadnt taken much punishment.....he was an aggressive fighter who turned pro at 16 and had been through the meat grinder...had been KO'd, gone up in weight, dramatic highs and lows...and yet he fought at championship level from the 70's until the 90's
