I'm just saying, Mayweather might have picked Baldomir because it did place him at the top of the division technically, so everyone would always want a piece of him... That never goes away either. Even if he comes back, he will still be the lineal champion, so he can get a fight if he wants.

I honestly do hope he stays retired, unless he really has gotten his head clear and now wants to fight for greatness in the sport, and not for money. I don't want to see rematches with ODLH and Hatton...
Only if all his fans thought this way. Good post!

It's that kind of thinking that made me not a fan...

      But yeah...

I wish people who treat boxing like a wholistic sport, rather than just focusing on making their favorite people looking good.

One of my favorite fighters is Winky Wright... and you know what? I'll be the first to say that he has probably priced himself out of the rest of his career. If you lose a fight, you don't get another big fight... He needed to fight a couple of lower ranked people to get his name back up, and he didn't. Now he is going to have a lot of ring rust, and his ability has diminished in the time off I would think. He's probably done.

If only people could see their own favorite fighter in an objective manner... how much better would this board be?

WHO IS MAKING WORST CAREER MOVE?

        Margarito or Cotto?
Alright Horus, that was a pretty good post surprisingly. You raise good points about both fighters. To answer your question, IMO, Margarito is making the worst choice right now. Up until this point I feel that Cotto has done more and taken more risks than Margarito. Though some can argue he avoided Mayweather at 140, he really hasn't avoided anyone else, at least blatantly. His name is bigger than Margarito's right now and because of that, Margarito needs to get as much attention as possible to move himself into the top position. It was ****ty that he didn't go on to get revenge on Williams after he beat Cotto to solidify his spot at the top, but he goes on to pass up a fight with Mosley because the money isn't right? He's right at the cusp of being able to make those kind of demands but only on the cusp. I still think he needs to take on all comers. My biggest problem with him turning down Mosley was that I honestly saw him winning that fight. It would be a great tuneup fight and money in the bank. My thoughts right now are that he had to work his way back up to this point where he still isn't really at the top and that he is afraid to risk losing before another big payday against Cotto as it will be even harder for him to get back to where he is now.

So do you think the Baldomir fight was a good career moved for Mayweather.?

After this thread we need to make a thread really disecting Margarito...
People think If Mayweather would have fought and beat Margarito, He would have gotten credit for that win..!!!

I happen to think the opposite, I think people would have said well Margarito lhas 5 loses so Mayweather was suppose to win.. IF YOU NEED PROOF.
          • How much credit did Williams get for beating Margarito????
          • What happen to Paul Williams after he beat Margarito...???
          • Did he even get in the top 10 p4p..??

And this right after Margarito beat a 30-1 Joshua Clottey and undefeated Kermit Cintron for the first time.....

(A PRIME Margarito)... when he had (the most feared man in the world tag)

I GIVE A DETAILED RESPONSE TO THIS TOPIC ON ANOTHER THREAD
MONTHS AGO ABOUT COTTO BEATING MARGARITO..

So I happen to think Mayweather picking Baldomir the Lineal Champion over Margarito was a great moved. Because that win got Mayweather the lineal title and place him at the top of the division which would have not happen if he fought margarito at that time..!!

It really is all up to what happened in their careers after Mayweather-Margarito... If Baldomir did big things, then it would be the wrong move. If Margarito still did big things, then it was the right move.

I think it was a better business decision for the same money, but... legacy wise, probably not.

              Legacy wise...?

Once again The Baldomir win got Mayweather the lineal title and place him at the top of the division.

which would have not happen if he fought Margarito at that time..!

Once again here is my PROOF...!!!

              PAUL WILLIAMS..!!

Legacy wise I will argue that Mayweather made the right moved because
ultimately Margarito is never going to live up to his hype. and History will show that the Welther Weight Division was a stepping stone for floyd to fight Oscar. And After Mayweather left the divisiom, nobody
made the impact mayweather did on the division.

              Let me say this.

If Floyd would have fought Margarito would it shut up alittle bit more of Floyd critics, probably.

              But ask yourself this question

when will Floyd ever not have critic's?

              Never

              • Greatest Super Featherweight of All Time
Off the top of my head, both Arguello and Chavez were better at 130.

            • Top 10 light welterweight of All Time
            • This is a joke! He fought there 3 times against non-descript opposition.

            • Top 5 Featherweight of All Time

            • This is a lie since he never fought at featherweight.

            • Top 5 lightweight of All Time
            • NOT EVEN CLOSE!!

            • Trademarked The Pocket Offense
            • Lie.

            • Trademarked The Shoulder Roll Defense
            • Another lie.

            • Undefeated
            • Hand picked easy opponents after lightweight. Big deal.

            • 39-0

            • Wouldn't this fall under undefeated? Duh!

            • 5 Weight Division
            • didn't unify one of them.

            • 6 World Class Titles
            • Once again, he was never the unified champ.

            • 50% of fights were Championship Fights
            • This means nothing when fighting for paper titles without trying to unify against the best competition.

Actually you can't discuss anything with me because I bring irrefutable facts while you nuthug and lie. Tell us again how Floyd is an all-time featherweight? Tell us how you came to the conclussion that Floyd was a top 5 all-time lightweight with only 4 title fights there and one of them many people thought he lost? Tell us how you rank him the best at 140 when he never fought a meaningful fight there? Tell us why he never fought Margarito, Cotto or Williams when all were considered better than slow soft hitting Baldomir? You don't want to have this discussion because you know I'll tear thru every lame ass argument you can bring to the table.

I liked Floyd at 130 and 35. After that though.....he became a mouthy punk not willing to back it up against the best.

Jab do you remember the conversation we had about you saying floyd was a natural Welter Weight...??

And I tryed to have a real discussion with you about being a natural WW
