He was past if or Ruiz. But not so far past that he couldn't see his prime in his rare view mirror...
When do you think Jones became SHOT?

Roy is way past his best but not shot, he knocked down the no. 2 p4p fighter in the world in the first round and lasted all twelve rounds. Yes Calzaghe dominated the fight, but forget about the cut and I don't see how you can call it a battering.Comment

It happened after the weight loss after Ruiz, no doubt. Roy could probably sense that his endurance and reflexes were betraying him , his mindset compensated and the rest is history. The Jones before Ruiz never sat on the ropes and took punches. He moved around his opponents and created punching angles that he exploited with his speed and impecable accuracy. Jones never took intentional abuse before that. Anyone who does not agree with that apparently has not studied Jones' variations as closely as i have, as one of his biggest fans. Roy is still a GOOD fighter, but that is just not acceptable enough after being what he was before the heavyweight move-up and wil not get him another world title other than beating Zsolt Erdei or Adrian Diaconu. To me that would mean very little at this point. Jones has nothing to prove anymore, that was all over when he gutted it out and beat Tarver in their first fight. Jones fullfilled destiny and that feat will probably never be replicated again.Comment

I thought Roy fought well in the first Tarver fight, his previously good ability to hold a punch didn't turn up for the rematch.
I dont think Roy is shot in the Leonard vs Camacho or Ali vs Holmes sense, but he is far from the collosus he was in his reactions, combinations or workrate.Comment

i just wish he hit calzaghe flush with that, if the wrist did that much damage, no doubt calzaghes head would've came right off with a well buried punchComment

If that punch was lucky, then so was B-hops on Joe, Glenn Johnson's on Roy and Tarvers on Jones. Just cannot say that. The bottom of the glove still connected and still hurt Joe. Simple as that. Who knows if Joe would have dropped had the top of the glove connected. I know one thing, Joe sharpens up after he's in danger. The uppercut Roy hit him with in rd. 6 would have dropped anybody else in the division.Comment
