Roy got too comfortable after beating Ruiz. He had accomplished all he wanted to accomplish in boxing.

35 years old sheds 23-24 lbs of muscle in 6 weeks....

Tarver and Johnson meanwhile were hungry fighters. Tarver and Johnson were also tough opponents for a fading Roy.

Eric harding gave Roy trouble, but Roy was able to win at 32 I believe. Tarver is alot like Harding.

Glen Johnson is just tough as hell. He even gave chad Dawson trouble.

With that being said, Roy would have handled Johnson 5 years earlier. And if someone doesn't agree on that, thats really something...

I don't think he was in his prime against Ruiz. I think he was past it at that point. But because Ruiz isn't that skilled, Roy was in great shape and motivated, we didn't see it then.

going up to heavy is what did Roy in. He was never the same after that. NOt the first Tarver Second nothing. But what a way to go. He did something no one will do well not any time soon
And none of the guys that beat him will even dare do what he did.
That is the differnce between RJJ =ATG and JC= good fighter!

Im suprised most people think Jones was shot after Ruiz.

He looked ok against Tarver, not the same , but still very capable. Very fast, still had alot of fight left in him, but not as much stamina or sharpness.

There is a difference between being SHOT (not a challenge for anyone) and just past his prime, on the down slope.

He was KO'd by Tarver, so we cant say he was shot. But against Johnson, he couldnt really do anything with him, and it took such effort to throw any decent punches. Then he could KTFO by a punch that didnt look that big.

He was declining before the Ruiz fight, it was plain to see after it though.

Jones didn't look shot to me in Jones Tarver I. In decline maybe, but he was still a great fighter during and after that fight. And if people remember correctly Jones was dominating the first five minutes of Jones-Tarver II. He looked like old Roy Jones. Then he got KOed and everything went south. He got dominated and then KOed by Glen Johnson who he would have beaten in his prime and lost decisively to Tarver in their third fight.
Jones became shot as soon as he got hit by Tarver's big left hook in the second fight.
