What's this "nothing left to prove" Bull****?! "Prove" has nothing to with a $20,000,000 payday for a big fight, which is likely in his next fight. Linear LHW champ + undefeated + soft touch = Zsolt Erdei, and Calzaghe's next fight/win in Wales.
If Froch beats Pascal in style this will be huge fight. Calzaghe has been offered Froch in the part but instead faught Bika, Ashira and Manfredo.
I admit Frochs record is not great but the reason for this is no one wants to fight the guy, Inkin cried off twice, Bute was offered WBC eliminater but didnt fancy it, Taylor was offered fight but chose easy option in Lacy.
Froch is huge for 12st, has very long reach and hits far harder than anyone Joe has faced.
Joe has proved he can be caught early in fights, would he get up from a Froch uppercut?? Im not so sure.
Froch is seriously underated and avoided by all.
Joe has made a career fighting blown up welterweights and old men, time to fight the Cobra.
Take a step back and listen to whom has said this.
Enzo Calzaghe.
Not the most reliable character, fairly moronic and contradicting. Infact even Joe can be contradictive unfortunately. Enzo was saying in NY he hoped and thought Calzaghe would retire as he has nothing to prove anymore, and his family really wants him too. A host of big name fighters have come out and advised him strongly to retire on top now as Lennox kinda did.
Froch - Not a big name or fight. Calzaghe would struggle a lot to get back down to SMW as he finally admitted himself. Plus most think Kessler's better and would, and may well do soon, beat him. If Froch faced some of the top SMW's and Kessler he'd quite likely come out with a loss.
Dawson - Having been at LHW for awhile now Joe he looks more natural there aswell. If HBO and Dawson really did offer a fight to team Kessler Clegg made the good point of why would they do that if Calzaghe was still a good possibility? So, it suggests Calzaghe has either turned it down or is unlikely to face Dawson hence Dawsons team offering Kessler as a 2nd choice, or even further down the line.
Johnson - A good and worthy opponent as he has wins over Tarver and Jones, Woods. Also has a few too many losses though.
Hopkins - Joe beat him once on a bad night, he'd beat him clearer next time in just as much of an anti fight as before. Joe said this himself, along with not liking rematches, which is true he's only done one, that was a mandatory and he literally had to be forced to even do that.
Kessler - See above on re match and having beaten him, yet even more clearly. Plus the SMW issues.
Guys, I think team Calzaghe need to be taken with a bag of salt and this be kept in context given the above.
Following last weekend's beatdown of Roy Jones Jr. at New York's Madison Square Garden, Joe Calzaghe told media members that he was finally ready to retire after a 15-year unbeaten. According to Enzo Calzaghe, Joe's father and trainer, during the last few days - his son is having second thoughts about walking away from the ring. He could see his son returning to the ring after getting bored and/or receiving a very large offer to take a fight. [details]
That retirement statement was a preemptive strike against Hopkins.Hopkins had promised to confront him and Joke wanted all the time to cherry pick his net opponent.
Enzo did mention that anyone wanting to fight should put their bids early. There is too much money to be made Joke wont walk away. He's not like Lewis who made tonnes of money.Joe will fight for until he starts losing
