Following last weekend's beatdown of Roy Jones Jr. at New York's Madison Square Garden, Joe Calzaghe told media members that he was finally ready to retire after a 15-year unbeaten. According to Enzo Calzaghe, Joe's father and trainer, during the last few days - his son is having second thoughts about walking away from the ring. He could see his son returning to the ring after getting bored and/or receiving a very large offer to take a fight. [details]

Joe can't lose much by fighting but there's a lot to gain left. Beating Dawson would be a real feather in his cap. I'd love to see Cal-Johnson too. Johnson has earned the platform and it's a good, competitive fight. Hopkins I was an ******** to watch but could be worth a rematch if the stink of the first recedes.
I'm crazy so a fight with Erdei to permamently resolve lineage would even be welcome.

Marciano's isn't really 'a record' as much as 'his record.' Chavez won way more fights before losing and through three tough weights so what's really better? The record I'd like to see beat is Louis's seven Heavyweight title defenses in one year...now that's a record.

The only fight that really does anything beneficial for him is a fight with Dawson, but he doesn't need it. He really doesn't need it. A lot of guys make the mistake of either fighting one fight too many, or one fight too few (see: Floyd Mayweather Jr., who should have faced either Cotto, Margarito, or Williams before hanging them up; at least we could have bought the idea that he was a Welterweight Champion then). I think he's fought just enough to have a great legacy, but not too much that his health will be impaired.
He definitely shouldn't take a bunch of time off and then come back. Career suicide.Comment

Joe needs it if he wants to retire #1 p4p or pass Marciano's record. In Floyd's last division he beat the top two guys in Baldomir and Judah. Then beat Hatton wherever he was ranked WW. I think Calzaghe should match that with 3 wins @ LHW while beating the top 2.The only fight that really does anything beneficial for him is a fight with Dawson, but he doesn't need it.
