Will Dawson become Calzaghe's "1 fight too long" as Tarver was Roy Jones's "1 fight too long"???????

There is a lot of talk here in the UK that Carl Froch may be a possibility.
Hope not as i'd much prefer he smashes Chad Dawson in CardiffComment

I'm rather surprised. If it does happen, hopefully it is only one more big fight, then retirement. He really doesn't have anything left to prove and has had a greater career than most would ever dream of having.
Going to out on top is the only way to go out. I actually think he has a lot to lose if he did lose his last fight after coming back. If he lost to Dawson, then everyone that was looking for that excuse to pull him down will have found it, whereas if he beat him, then it would be another big win that would no doubt get overlooked like he previous wins against solid undefeated champs.
Anyway, whatever happens, it should happen quickly. If he wants to still be sharp for one last fight he shouldn't take too much time off, as that plus the age factor, could spell ruin for him. Too much celebrating from the Jones win and then possibly underestimating his last fight would be career suicide.
I can only really see him going up against Hopkins in a rematch or maybe Dawson, but only if Dawson is actually willing to go to Wales for Calzaghe's finale fight, which I still don't think he would be. Any other fight would be too small and not worth enough. The only way he would ever be willing to come back would be for a massive fight between two big names (Hopkins) or against a popular, young, brilliant champ that would fight in Wales, who is seen as the future of the division and be a legacy defining last fight (Dawson). Anyone else is just not a good fight really.Comment

Here's what Dawson had to say:
"Joe has lot to be proud of and I for one am very impressed," Dawson said in the statement. "If Joe wants to have his grand farewell in Wales, I am ready to accommodate. My passport and world title belts are ready to travel across the pond. I'm ready to give Joe the opportunity to draw the curtain on his great career in front of his family and friends and 70,000 fans. It's the best fight in the light heavyweight division between two undefeated champions."

It seems like Dawson is willing to make the trip, as is Hopkins.
These two are the only ones left for Calzaghe to fight really.
I doubt he would give Froch a fight unless Froch were able to win the WBC title and beat Jermain Taylor...Comment

The only fight to take or one he should even consider is the Dawson fight. Of course the "I have nothing left to prove" card will be played to death and if he retires, so be it. I just think if he beats Dawson, I for one as a JC non supporter, would be content. Other than Kessler, who I see as the only prime, young, hungry fighter he has fought, JC hasn't fought a young, strong, prime fighter since then. Lacy, well come on, any intelligent boxing follower knew better than to get into that hype job. Dawson is the only fight I wanna see from him or he should retire IMO. Any other fight will be him just looking to continue to cash in on lower level/aged fighters. I honestly think he will retire and if he does, well, I guess good for him.I'm rather surprised. If it does happen, hopefully it is only one more big fight, then retirement. He really doesn't have anything left to prove and has had a greater career than most would ever dream of having.

Well, seems as if he would have a grand farewell and not have to leave his backyard. Why NOT take the fight Joe? I mean if he truly wants to end it, nobody can blame him. BUT, if he still has the feeling to continue, there is no other option IMO."Joe has lot to be proud of and I for one am very impressed," Dawson said in the statement.
