in small spots when Jones did get his tail up last night and his confidence was there and he was in the CENTRE OF THE RING i thought he was going to end up making Calzaghe look like an idiot TBH but he could not siustain and then his back hit the ropes and Joe just kept coming and the rest is history

    • I wouldn't doubt it at all. Calzaghe looked sensational last night, And was in ahhh, as he dominated Jones completely. 10 years ago Joe didn't have the experience and Ring Generalship that he has now, But he did have much more pop in his punches.

Why is it that Roy Jones, Jr.'s "prime" is always defined to be before Tarver knocked him out with one punch? Is it possible that Roy always had a brittle chin? Your answer should be "yes."

The point is that Roy always had a big weakness in his game...his chin. For that reason, taking punishment to give punishment was never on his menu. Calzaghe doesn't have that problem and that's a big plus.

Calzaghe's run through of Lacey, Kessler, Hopkins, and Jones, Jr., iced the argument and marked Calzaghe's place in history. He's a great fighter with a style nobody ever figured out, and is arguably the best of his generation.

P.S. We can argue about Jones' longevity, but Calzaghe's win over Hopkins is another matter. That fight illuminated Calzaghe's true greatness, which to any reasonable boxing aficionado is beyond dispute.
No he's not, He's a bum who came along and fought Jones and Hopkins at the right time. When they were old. Plain and simple. And what makes him a bum is he was around when they were good but he stayed in Europe, quite as a church mouse, FIGHTING NOBODIES FOR A JOKE TITLE until they were past it. That's just the way it is.

            • I don't think so. Jones beats Calzaghe prime for prime, people are forgetting just how good Jones was in his prime.

                Not just one.

Calzaghe is past his prime as well and would have been faster had they fought 7-10 years ago.

Please, How do you know Calzaghe is past is prime. Is it because he looked so much more dangerous against Tocker Pudwell? Clearly a measuring stick against a prime Jones.

                • Calzaghe is competitive with Jones Jr. (and Hopkins) at any age. He maybe beats a younger, fresher Roy. Maybe, but I'd bet on Roy.

Indeed they do. I rewatched Jones-Toney after the fight. It dulled the pain a little.

btw, DLH is fighting Pacquiao next month.

Did he take his time or wait for it to be safe?
