**** off with this ****** thread.
Calzaghe made himself look like a fool last night.

Showboating doesn't necessarily mean he has no respect for Jones. And when was the last time Hopkins did a bolo punch?Comment

I don't think I've ever cringed more.
Spastic moves as you're fighting an old man with one working eye and not much else.Comment

Excellent point!
I don't like Calzaghe any more than most people but he was either showboating or he was hitting Jones Jr. Which would you prefer?
Calzaghe is an arrogant *******. I dislike him as soon as he opens his mouth. But what he did in the ring was OK. Showboating is a risk and if you take it you earn the right to enjoy it.Comment

Totally, good example. I'd be interested as to the thread starters answer to a couple of examples. It's ok for Roy to do it "because he did it to people whom had a chance." That's really lame, he stood off, held hands low, wound his hands, show boated to a lot of guys. Some whom had a good chance of winning some not. It's not that I like it but I don't think Calzaghe deserves the criticism some people are directing towards him, I doubt we'd be hearing the same thing if Jones did the same thing to Calzaghe. We didn't hear anything about Hopkins' showboating when he was beating up Pavlik.
So what now a boxer has to sit on their stool, judge at that moment how good they and their opponent is doing, to determine if they have a bit of fun with their performance, and entertain?
And how comes Hopkins is aloud to do it too? Not saying it was as bad but come on, no complaints at all versus this, seems a double standard. It was Joe's last fight and he was bound to showboat and go out with a **** like that.Comment

If my best mate introduced me to his girlfriend then i embarrassed my mate in front of his girlfriend, that's the same comparison for me.It's not that I like it but I don't think Calzaghe deserves the criticism some people are directing towards him, I doubt we'd be hearing the same thing if Jones did the same thing to Calzaghe. We didn't hear anything about Hopkins' showboating when he was beating up Pavlik.
Roy was shot, Joe dominated him. Wasn't it enough for Joe to beat a living legend and go out(?) from the sport undefeated? that he has to mock Roy and afterwards says he has huge respect for Roy!?!?
That ain't respect IMO!Comment

Hopkins was a huge underdog, Pavlik talked smack during the build up. And yeah his showboating was disrespectful but Bernard had a massive chip on his shoulder for that fight so I can kind of understand it. Calzaghe's antics were unesseccary, he was favourite, he was winning by a wide margin and he had backed up his talk with a great performance.Comment

Can't blame Joe for the antics. He knew he was on his way to victory in front of a NY crowd in the most famous boxing venue in history.
He was probably feeling vengeful for Hatton's loss too.
He will always be criticized for fighting an old RJ, but neither fighter wanted to leave their hometown to fight each other in their primes when it really mattered.
Still, Joe fought and beat two top legends which will look great in the books.Comment
